90s Trance guys, going 90s Trance again in 2020

Tiesto plays for an empty crowd, a livestream set he did. Checking the comments section, many people were saying the In Search of Sunrise Mix influence was heavy on this particular set. Even Tijs himself said "I'm gonna play something different today, because I can." What is your opinion on this set?

Above and Beyond messing with their classic material as of lately, has become somewhat profound moment in this whole covid 19 quarantining serendipity. Much like Tijs, A&B were on the whole commercial crap for the many years of recent..... however 2019/2020 interesting things happen I guess.

I remember meeting Above & Beyond "fans" in real life around my local area, and none of them even knew pre-2011 Above & Beyond. They only knew 2011 A&B with their newer works coming from "Filmic" album. That album was a clear departure from their distinctive iconic trance sound/style. Seeing them touch trance like this again is very intriguing.

Below Tiesto drops A*S*Y*S & Dominik Schwarz - Dark Light. Dominik Schwarz who worked with A*S*Y*S on this particular acid track, got super happy that someone recorded their track being played on a Tiesto liveset in .... ISRAEL??? of all places. Like why only Israel gets the trance set? I know this is 2019, but still.... it was just last year....

I think the point is that whenever Tiesto plays a set that has a slower tempo, a warmer sound, a certain kind of vocals, summery vibes, mellow "trancy" synth bits etc., etc., all that sort of thing, there will be people who will immediately throw in those supposed In Search of Sunrise influences, regardless of what it really is he plays. I think that is a simplistic way of looking at it. Misguided nostalgia, perhaps.

It isn't much of a trance set in that video from Tel Aviv. Looks like he takes about six minutes in total to play five old tracks at the end.

I find it funny that folks still tie In Search Of Sunrise to Tiesto. Meanwhile, Richard Durand weeps in a corner.

Lol, you mean the fact that everybody forgot him after ISOS was passed onto him? Yeah, I remember he was passed the torch for ISOS, but nobody gave a flying f.

Speaking of which, came across this one by chance. Another stale remix of an old track. How do people who have been in this business for so long - like Helsloot - manage to produce such bland, sub par stuff?

As soon I heard him start the set with a cheesy vocal, I turned it off. What's so deep and ISOSy about that?

He cranked out the same amount of volumes as Tiesto did, but no one cares. They finally jettisoned Rich' a couple years ago, and now I think Markus Schulz is the current custodian of the series.

Which just seems weird to me.

Edit:
ISOS 14, featuring Markus Schulz, Gabriel & Dresden, and Andy Moor

Fifteen years ago, this would have been one of the most talked-about releases ever. In the year 2018 tho', hardly a blip.

So that's Schulz, Moor and G&D playing a disc worth of their usual stuff each, because if they'd played anything "different", or "deep" or whatever there'd have been even less than hardly a blip. Because expectations. I don't think the sun's really risen for this series for the past decade.

He stated in an interview that he made the changes so that they would fit with the overall sound of contemporary tracks. Music is produced differently these days, with more digital technology as opposed to the analog equipment that was used years ago. Take a bass hit for example; nowadays they have more of a punchy sound but on the flip side, lose the feeling that I think you are referring to. So I get why he did it but I'm with you and still prefer the older sound.

Ferry Corsten and his peers never used analog equipment back in the days.

I stand corrected if this is true. He mentions in the interview the use of the Rolandd JP8000 which I believe mimics an analog sound. Here is the interview I am referring to. He makes mention how he tweaked the old tracks to fit in with the newer sounding tracks so they would work in his sets.

Also, isn't the JX10 he mentions analog?

And then TR909 he mentions here.
