newb, noob, n00b, nub....
these have to be the dumbest words EVER... you can't play a game of cs (counter-strike), or read a forum without some idiot saying this god-awful word... i don't see how being new at something (hence being a "noob") makes your opinions less credible (in the case of forums) or your skills weaker (in the case of cs) than others. people who use the word newb clearly have some sort of superiority complex. my theory is that there are 2 types of people who like to throw this word around...
1) those individuals cannot succeed socially in the real world, but have worked their way to a high position in the online community and are dishing out the same abuse that they recieve in real life.
2) people who are indeed new to the online community and try to gain credibility and acceptance by putting others down, thus making themselves look like an experienced and respectable member of the online community...
i play a lot of cs, so i just use that as an example... anyone who plays knows what i'm talking about... a rookie player makes a rookie mistake and you see stuff like:
"what a fucking noob"
"noobs suck"
"fucking noob teammates"
i know that if i were playing hockey instead of cs, and some idiot lashed out at his team or an opponent like that, they'd be tuned right there on the ice. what gives people the right to put others down like that? these elitists wouldn't be talking so big if they weren't hiding behind some anonymous nickname in their parent's basement.
and this problem isn't limited to cs... i see a lot of people on this forum lashing out at "newbs". yes, they are NEW to the forum, and yes, they might ask some questions that seem dumb... its gotten to the point where people are AFRAID to ask questions or express an opinion for fear of being flamed... i see a lot of posts that start like this.
"sorry for the noob question. please don't flame me...."
this isn't right. people shouldn't have to live in fear like this...
