Dunno Software: Please Help

I know most of you will have heard this a million times before, but I need to what sofware is the best to use to create my own tracks. (Reason, Fruityloops, i dunno...)

I'm investing in a laptop soon so I would like to learn a little about the software beforehand...

Any other information on experiences with the software, requirements, cost etc etc. would be very much appreciated.

buy hardware instead of investing in a laptop

buy yourself a 2nd hand rm1x and a 2nd hand virus b and a budget mixer and blow away all software "trance". And at least you've got some equipment if you wanna go live.

It's not the main reason I'm buying a laptop, though. I will be just one thing I will use it for.

...can someone tell me SOMETHING about what they are using. This forum's combined experience with Fruityloops + Reason must be a hell of a lot.

Logic Audio Platinum 5 is a professional tool used by a lot of musicians. Cubase SX. But not FruityLoops...

ive got a laptop too and a word of advice make sure its a very fast laptop cos even running just fruity will use up a lot of CPU power so make sure it can handle it before investing in a laptop! fruity is good if youve got good samples! theres loads of places to get them so dont worry about that but i think reason is more for making your own samples etc but i could be wrong! either way whatever suits your needs best, so only you can really pick what you want to use! but IMO fruity is very easy and simple to master the basics!

Thanks, the laptop I'm after will be AMD Athlon XP2000+ with 512MB RAM. Would it run smoothly? Do you know where I can get these programs from?

Exclamation Laptop

hi,

The first question i would ask you is: what else would you be using the laptop for? ie. do you need a laptop?I would definately stay away from one, as you can't update the thing. I have just had a computer built especially for music making and recording my mixing on, there is loads of room in the tower for upgrading and i will soon be running 2 soundcards, which you would never be able to do on a laptop. Basically stay away from the laptop.

As for the person who said to not bother with the computer at all, i think they are mad, i just read an article in Future music magazine and they say sure get a few bits of equipment, but there is no difference in sound quality between programmes and bits of equipment, plus the programmes are a dammed sight cheeper!

I've got loads of different programmess on my computer (Fruity loops, Reason, acid pro, sound forge) but all i use are Wavelab (for editing samples) and import the samples into Cubase SX which works excellently.

If you want to talk to me further, either E-mail me:

[email protected]

OR

Chat to me on sunday's between 8-10PM GMT in the chat room atwww.wwfm.co.uk as i do a trance radio show at that time.

hope this is of some help

Thanks for your help, but I WILL be getting a laptop. I travel a lot and I need it for work. I would also like to make some music on it...

So can someone please cut to the chase here, and tell me their opinions of the software available, instead of going off at tangents about hardware and the like....

Cheers

I use Reason 2.0 for producing and for my live acts + a Nord Rack...
I believe that's enough...

I also produce Hip Hop/RnB for a rapper friend of mine, witch tells you that Reason 2.0 can also be used for other genres of music, as long as you know how to use it

good luck
