hey guys,
im sure youve all had this problem even if your not mixing, but you know how like if you have a mobile phone around stereo equipment if your getting a call or msg (or even just randomly sometimes!) theres like ear piercing interferance and a "dun da dun dun" sound that comes.....? happens in your headphones too... when your mixing and the volume is quite high this can be really fucked... it goes as soon as you answer the phone or the signal stops being sent (if your sending messages or something) but like it happened today and i was wondering can this cause any permanant damage to the stereo? or any kind of damage at all? or is it just temporary...
lemme know what you guys think or if any of you are clued in on this... its quite the piss off.

Re: Those Damn Mobile Phones!
That sound occured because of umm... "radiowaves" caused by the electromagnetic waves that their frequency rises up dramatically when u receive a call or an sms. There is absolutely no damage, but if this happens again and again, there might be a damage to the magnets of the speakers, either the stereo's or the headphones'. Just keep the mobile phone in a certain distance of 2-3 meters from the speakers, and nothing would happen. And also, the clubs have speakers with special protection to these "radiowaves" so that nothing hapens to them... imagine this: you are in Trance Energy and suddenly, about 1.000 mobile phones start ringing... then what? all the speakers will go crazy? i don't think so!
As a aconclusion, don't give a fuck of that "dun da dun dun" sound... It's absolutely normal! Just remember to keep a distaaaaaaaaance!

ahh ok well the phone is with me near the mixer (about a metre from the headphones ( i just bought new ones today as well! but its only happened once to em) <-- would they be ok? and then about 2 - 3 metres from the speakers (against the opposite wall of my room) so should i maybe just leave the phone in the other room or something?
how about when everythings turned off... sounds stupid i know... but just cause you cant hear the interference does that mean its not happening? sorry for the 101 questions just curious/dont wanna fuck up

they only seem 2 affect my computer speakers and headphones when plugged in2 the comp although my fone has gone off when i was recording a set to computer and it didn't record the duh-duh-duh duh-duh-duh duh-duh-duh, so fak knows. but i know my m8s at another college from mine have 2 pay damages 2 a computer if it breaks and they have a mobile phone with them so maybe there is summat we dunno....
As i said before, the electo-magnetic waves that are used for all the cells to work, affect only the magnet that ALL of the speakers have. Now, as Project T mentioned above, the freaky sound wasn't recorded and that's because it doesn't go inside the wires! Its a superficial (or surfacial? sorry for my bad english! ) matter and it doesn't get to the "inside". Get it?
Jah, when everything is turned off, nothing happens and that's because there is no electricity going through the devices! NOTHING HAPPENS AND THAT'S WHY YOU CAN'T SEE IT! simple huh?
If you have more questions, i would be happy to answer them!

the speakers wont get damaged if they're magnetically shielded.
i am usin a philips soundsystem designed for home theater use, meaning it would be by a tv, and all sorts of other stuff, so everythin is magnetically shielded
