I'm posting this here now because I think I'll never have time to finish it anyway so I might as well post the raw cut.

Last weekend while I was on my weekend leave from the army I started doodling around with some simple melodies. After a couple of hours it had evolved to this.

It's a very simple composition, except it's the first track I've ever made that's in 3/4 time rather than 4/4. Very simple chillout piece, no beat, no bass. Who knows, maybe some day I'll finish it but I highly doubt it seeing how little free time I'm going to have for the next 10 months.

I like it - the melody has a slightly Japanese feel to it (I'm sure there's probably a better way of saying that) and the way it builds is neat. Of course I'd appreciate a nice bassy deep pad, but apart from that and a few more layers you probably wouldn't need to do much more to it. The three-minute length is ideal.

Mart, I think the word your looking for is Oriental.

About the song, I thought it was cool, reminds me of a videogame, maybe Final Fantasy 7. Good stuff, maybe we can hear an IDM remix sometime heh .

If you're not finishing it, why not sell the melody to alexpea's melody store, and make a profit?

No, seriously, this melody is pretty nice... sounds like something I'd hear in a Chinese Buffet, but better because theres sounds like stupid Geocities homepage music, and this sounds realistic (somewhat). I'd take the oriental lead (or piano you call it) a bit further by doing some pitch bends on the notes and have an 8th note higher riff and do little pitch slides so it sounds oriental... kinda like a Sitar melody or something.
