acetates
Although, acetates make nice collector copies, if it's something that you're going to play a lot, you're probably gonna want to find it on vinyl because acetates can only be played a number of times before they wear out. They also break real easy. Usually, I've found, that if there has been an acetate made and it's something that is headed for eventual release, there usually is test pressings made on vinyl (which can be easier to obtain) before it goes into final production. If you know what record company is going be putting it out, sometimes, if you write to them and request a pre-release copy (explain that you're a DJ, etc.)
they will quite often send you a copy (or 2). They are often willing to do this because it is free promotion for them. This is especially true with your "less known" artists as opposed to a long awaited release from a well known artist.
