Anyone familiar with Norton??

rite here's the problem. On incoming emails Norton scans it, and if its infected comes up with an option box. First it asks me to repair it. 9 times out of 10 it wont repair it coz virus scanners are fucking shit these days.. so secondly it asks me do i wanna quarantine it, which of course i dont coz the ****** will be on my comp.. and if it cant even quarintine it then it deletes it, leaving my registry anally raped..

So basically.. no matter what happens if someone sends an virus to my computer thru email, im fucked. Coz one way or another its gonna end up on my computer..

Is there noway i can set norton to scan it, and if its infected then totally reject the email.. just return it to sender and block the address. Surely something like this can be done instead of the virus coming in contact with my comp.

And this goes for any virus. Like i remember i once got a virus, so i backed everything up on cd, formatted, and re-installed everything. Then when putting everything back on my computer i see a word doc file is infected.. so i think fuck it.. i no whats gonna happen if i click repair. Its just gonna get onto my computer no matter what i do. So i click cancel, hoping that this will mean my computer just totally has nothing to do with this virus. I chuck away the disc, scan my comp, and believe it or not it has infected my computer.

So am i just running the wrong settings? or is norton really poo. If i scan a virus on a disc or email i just wanna delete it and get rid of it without it coming newhere near my c: drive. Is this not possible?

Hopefully someone has had similar experience and can understand my drivel.. sorry but as u may hav gathered by now ive just got a virus and am about to kick some fucking ass to the person who sent it But i just cant seem to help getting them.. Any suggestions, recommendations, help, plsssssss

I don't see what the problem is "DJ Mikey Mike." If you get an email infected with a virus then surely you just want to delete it ASAP without opening it, which Norton Antivirus should let you do? The infected email is likely to be either spam (which you don't want anyway) or from a friend (who will send you another email if the content is important) so you probably don't really need to read the infected email anyway. I agree that it would be better if NAV could repair more infected files, but I'm usually more than happy if NAV just detects the virus before I open the email/file, so that I can annihilate the little b****** before it infects my PC.

BTW, www.symantec.com does have a support forum, which you might like to try.

Yeah I had a similar situation with viruses. Normally what happens is that Norton detects the virus and shows you what file is infected. I search for this file using the Find function in Windows and I delete it manually. Sometimes the ****** can't be deleted in Windows since the file is being used by another program. What I do is is go into command prompt and terminate that biaatch.

so what ur saying is if i just delete the file there and then without attempting to repair and without quarinting (spell check ) , it wont hav had time to spread??? If so if it ever happens again i'll just delete the ****** str8 away.

Cheers

Mike

Yeah, a virus only infects your computer if it is executed (i.e. you doubleclick the infected file or open the infected email etc) so if you delete the virus before it's executed then your computer will be OK. I would only attempt to repair or quarantine an infected file if I REALLY needed the file and didn't have a backup etc. Otherwise I would always delete it ASAP - viruses can be so destructive that it doesn't seem worth the risk, IMHO.

you could also try zipping the file with winzip or what-so-ever
then no antivirus program can detect it...
or you could switch of automatic virus scan of outgoing mails.

Bah norton programs are suck. They fuck up the registry so badly. I installed system works 2002, except my pute crashed while installing. So i tried to reinstall over the top, asks me to uninstall, so i tried, and it says its not a completed installation. So i had to go through the registry and take all the reg keys out and in doing that, i fucked up my recycle bin so i dont have one now.
