mp3s with no time?

hey,
i was not sure where this thread went but i guess heres most appropriate. Ok you know when you get a mp3 and you cue it winamp and like the time doesnt come up until you actually play the file... does anyone else get that? i was wondering what it meant... i get it usually on huge sets like i have this paul van dyk and frankie knuckles sets both over 300 meg... like 4 - 5 hours and when its cued in the winamp playlist like the time doesnt show up until you actually play the file... i was just wondering why this happened and if its possible to fix? sounds anal i know but just curious cause ive seen it for ages now...

the above doesnt work

i use read titles on load, and strangely i have two files that have the same problem. first one is above and beyond @ mos (screw the date), but it's only ~80mb, while the other file is the total thunderdome decade broadcast on id-t, which is ~450mb (thx trancerulez from ages ago ;p)

so yer, dunno why

yeah i thats what i mean same stuff happens with th eabove and beyond file with me too... also i think i narrowed it down to sets or large files that were previously in parts and i have downloaded a full version (like all the parts put together) so maybe there was something dodgy in the process of joining those parts or something...

ive had mp3s where the time changes as it plays
it loads and it has a time, then it plays past that time and another time is displayed, then it plays passed that too! the one that came to mind was 'metallica - outlaw torn', from the cd single (its longer than the album version). but it has happened before with other mp3s as well, hehe dunno why.

* whats vbr?

its a different format.. u no, like theres .mp3 or .mp3pro etc.. Theres .vbr as well

u mite hav come across it before. If u hav a set where the bitrate keeps changing. I hav a chicane set, where in winamp the bitrate reading flicks between 128 to 160 to 192 and then back down to 128 again, and so on. VBR is shit coz u cant burn to cdr. U need to convert to mp3 first. crappy format.

VBR = Variable Bit Rate
As DJ Mikey Mike says, "the bitrate reading flicks between 128 to 160 to 192 and then back down to 128 again, and so on"

CBR = Constant Bit Rate
128, 160, 192, 320 etc

Some long files won't show the time until you play them, don't know why. Some other files also do it for some reason (some fuckup in the encoding or something).

just a thought, this problem has never bothered me though, maybe the mp3s have a crc error? or maybe they have been encoded with out a header?

just some thoughts
