I am here and talking about my Vestax mixer which i bought not too long ago. I brought it home, the PCV 175, had everything apart from effects that i wanted, plugged it in and away i went. I got used to the way the monitoring system worked, fair enough. But i came to the cross-fader. Now i don't use the cross-fader much, only for quick stabs and other effects, but some of you will agree with me that the cross-fader is essential. Well this cross fader was screwed. When you put it in the middle it would soften, when you would put it across to the absolute left or right it would increase in gain, 2DB! So i thought yeah, better get that fixed up. Then i went and had a look at the kill switches, and switches they are. When you use them they make a poppy noise! *POP* so they are useless to me now, as if i would make a mix-tape full of pops!. So i decided to get it fixed. Sent it away, took 3 weeks, even though they said 5 days. Came back and i plug it in today and it still has the same problems as before, even though the kill switches and the faders had been replaced. Personally i don't think that this mixer is fit for anyone to use! Now to everyone who has a 175 can you check yours out and see if you have these problems? thanx for hearin me out anyway, just wanted to know if i am the only sucker in the world.

i had and still have a 175, the x-fader has a dip in the middle for smooth mixing, but i prefer channel faders, so i just stuck it to the left and used the left and central channel faders and yes the kill switches are crap, but u don't need kill switches for mining trance m8...

the reason for the pop..is the metal switch. it creats instant connection..

say it were to be a push button like on the behringer it is silent....it sux, but the kills are useless anyways IMO

the vestax 275 is way better. i notice no dip in the center, and the kill switches sound much better. there is a slight *pop* but it's hardly noticeable, especially if you do it at the right time.

well, as far as the crossfader dip is conserned, this is the case for most mixers, that's the way the crossfader is made, as you move it across the channel that is playing live has a dip in the volume while the cued channel's volume starts to rise. So basicaly at the middle of the crossfader the two channels are at the same low volume level which IMO sucks, dunno if this makes any sense. About the kill switches having problems, well the 175 is a mixer made of low quality material, that's why vestax brought out the pcv-275 which is basically the same thing as the 175 but it is made of higher quality materials and hence it is more expensive.

Well thats what i am trying to do anyway. I am trying to get hold of the guy i bought this thing from and get an upgrade to the 275 model. I thought the 175 had all the features and quality that my money could buy. Obviously not.

strange i can't really hear it. Sometimes i put the volume fader on the incoming track to 0, then slide the crossfader to the middle, and then rise the volume fader on the incoming track.

i don't notice a drop in volume when i do this... i will check again tonight.

go to vestax or scour the techy boards and see what is the standard PCV275 xfader curve. I know when I do it, i dont feel a physical dip, but I do hear the sound drop a little as i leave it in the center. For mixing purposes this is somewhat ideal if you chose to use the xfader because you dont want the middle sharp because accidents will screw up the sound

Hey everyone again,
i have decided to sell my PCV 175 mixer. But the good thing is i am selling it for what i paid for it. So no big deal. Now i am faced with the choice of another mixer. I am thinking the pioneer DJM 500. I can get this reletively cheaper than thr RRP. Does anyone have any rants or raves about this particular mixer?

a mixer without curve control is like a bike without an adjustable seat. it might work, but it'll suck to ride. some sort of fader curve adjustment is really essential if you use the fader much. the 2db dip is normal, by the way. this is for smoother mixes, geared towards longer mixing. useless to me. i like a fast crackin' fader, because my main use for the fader is to bring things in and out rapidly.

as far as kill switches... most USELESS creation ever invented on a mixer. i've owned two different mixers with them, never used them for anything worthwhile.

I owned a vestax pcv-175 before, and I must say it is poor quality. although for the price range it isnt that bad if you are just starting out, but I grew out of it within months. no crossfader curve control is bad, I dont think I can ever live without it again!! I upgraded to a Rane MM8z and I must say, it was worth every penny.
