The confusion around Pro Tools arises from a lack of understanding of the different versions and numerous hardware units available. For the full low-down, check www.digidesign.com

A Pro Tools system does not have to be expensive, but the top of the range ones naturally are. You get what you pay for.

If your studio needs the capabilities of a Pro Tools HD system with a couple of 192 I/O units (and you'd know if that was the case) then you'd be well into the professional league and expecting to pay the corresponding prices.

its ideally used for recording live musicians and the like....it hasnt got a lot of midi-eseque support

not good as a start off program for trance...its more of a bad assed audio editor / multitrack recorder kind of thing and you need to buy hardware in/out boxes to run it proper

if you want a top end prog to do trance on....get logic platinum 5.2

actually
it is better reserved for recording studios and the like
nothing beats this prog for radio production

it can be used in music production, however, there are other programs out there that are more suited

I hope this is a joke... but in case it isn't (btw, please either don't read below, or ignore any sarcasm/rudeness if your post WAS a joke)...

James Holden uses Buzz. He is a producer, and a very good one at that. So surely if he's choosing to use Buzz, it's got to be the best!

The problem you run into when you start looking at what "pros" use, is that they use LOTS OF DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS. There isn't going to be one application that is the best.

Plus, most use applications that existed many years ago, or are at least similar to what they used years ago, because they started producing many years ago. A program like Fruity Loops, which didn't exist (at least as more than a drum loop generator) many years ago won't be used by those "pros". And yet, there ARE still "pros" who use Fruity Loops.

I feel like this has been said over and over and over, and no one listens...

Ah well, what do I care. If you want to base your decision of what program to use on who uses it, be my guest. You might also want to take a look at some Nike Airs -- I hear Michael Jordan uses them, so they must be the best for basketball!

i've been wanting to take a crack at logic
a guy i'm going to start producing with has it in his studio
all i hope is that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to learn it
although i guess it probably wouldn't be that hard considering i learned pro tools, acid, soundforge and a few other progs by myself...
