Ok. 2002 is coming to an end, and I've got some mouth to drop on some of these threads and things I've seen...more specifically, most recently with these ridiculous threads and topics and opinions people are coming up with.

Point 1: AvB = commercialization or not?
If you listen to trance, and think Armin is not commercialized, I'm sorry, but you either need to open up your mind and see the whole picture, or get off his nutsac...one of the two. AvB, while a good producer and moderate DJ, delineates commercialization of trance as best possible...him, Ferry, Tiesto, (dare I say..) Paul van Dyk, Oakenfold...big time GodsCreamKitchenCrasherSensationCity jocks, all represent corporate trance, trance that is meant for the masses, trance that sells on name, trance that is formulaic, and trance that is widely known. His recent list on ASOT Top 20 was pure, utter, batshit...I dare, no, I call out ANY ONE of you on this board, all however many thousands of members plus, to tell me if ONE of those songs hasn't been on any DJs top ten playlist or any list for that matter. Of course, that's the purpose of that program...ASOTT20 was to show what tunes were POPULAR...lemme repeat, POPULAR.

quote:
he is 100% commercial. and judging by that obsene top 20 episode he spun recently, makes me cringe. also, his stupid radio shows dont do shit to me. all they consist of is boring, uninovative, repetitive, outdated trance. he made some quality tunes back then before he was crushed under sheer weight of gated strings.

TranceRaver21, I haven't seen alot of your threads, but I think that you've said it, and said it right...I couldn't have put it any better without going into my usual steaming hot tempered manner that I'm doing right now. Listen to this man, he's got some science up in that dome and coming out of that mouth of his to crack on y'all TAs with this shit he posted.
To end, face the facts. All of these tunes we are ALL listening to, these super tracks that everybody plays and heard, is or are commercialized music. Nothing more, or less...just because the whole world hasn't heard of PvD or AvB or FC or any 'ee' DJ don't mean it's not commercialized. It just means that there are other people out there, who prefer other types of music.

POINT 2: Categorization of TAs
WIHTOUT A DOUBT, THE MOST RIDIUCLOUS, FATTEST PIECE OF FUCKIN STUPID BATSHIT I'VE EVER READ, SEEN,TASTED, FELT OR HEARD IN MY 5 YEARS OF LISTENING TO ELECTRONICA.
That's right...an article or posting so utterly out of this world, that it stimulates all my senses. TiestoInTheMix, I'm sorry, but I've a mark on your for posting what you posted about beginner, pro or whatever shit you wrote...to make it worse, you quoted yourself on this! "respects the djs for whatever they've done and never says a particular dj sucks"...holy shit, please somebody, give this kid a a shot or better yet slap in the face with a supersized can of reality...TITM, it's called "opinions", and everybody is entitled to them. I guess I'm not a "pro" cuz I think some DJs blow, is that right? Oh wait a minute, I'm sorry, I choose to be my own, and hold my own ground no matter what anybody says. That's what it's all about, and sadly, trance is a genre that falls under it's own weight: people complain about people complaining about how it's boring and undiverse, and yet they divide the genre into more divisions and seperate themselves from each other. Please, listening to trance is not about thinking about what other people think, it's thinking about what YOU, yourself think...it's a personal experience that not alot of us fully enjoy and understand, unfortunatley.
Don't take it heart kid. I've said some stupid shit in my time, but give it up to this...super trance addict? I'm gonna go lock myself in the bathroom and cry now...

I'm sorry if I seem like I'm angry at the world or if I went off again, but somethings gotta be said about some of these threads that have been written. I don't know what kinda flaming I'm gonna get for this, but it's ok. I've said what I've wanted to say. And by flaming me, only means that you've read what I had to say, which is the important part.
Happy Holidays.

the title could've been a little more creative hehe

I know AvB is more "commerical" than most trance djs, but when you consider trance and electronica in general is WAY more mainstream in Europe, especially Holland & Germany, who isn't commerical?

And yeah, people bitching about other people not liking their fav DJ or trance subgenre and calling them a 'newbie' err whatever for not liking Ferry Corsten or something is ridiculus. I'd rather listen to the worst electronica than listen to rap or hiphop or something (not that i'm saying it's crap, but hey...it's trance )

How do you define "commercial"? If it is one that makes money selling cd's, then most if not all dj fall into that category. Or is it one that appears on commercial radio all the time? Must all good trance remain underground for eternity?

not sure if the above is relevant, but alas, I wasnt born blonde for nothing

This is by far the most retarded thing I have ever read on these boards. Of couse he played all popular tunes, what the hell do you want? A top 20 list with shitty songs that no one likes?

^^^ Well said.

DJohn stop acting like a selfish child. I guess you think AvB should have only the tunes that you and the few other people that are bitching want on there huh? Get over it,,, who fucking cares what tunes made the top 20,,, it's hilarious how bent out of shape you're getting over this. I deffinetly think there is a few notable tracks missing and maybe a few that should be on there but seriously... WHO FUCKING CARES.

Basically what your saying is that the only trance we should listen to is the Trance that don't appeal to the masses, that the people don't enjoy I agree that AvB has become a bit commercialised and that is good for the spread of the wonderful music we call "Trance" Trance does not and shouldn't be regarded as 100% underground music, its power and diversity should have the ability to appeal to everybody.

I know what you mean, but why do you care? Be happy for the music that is produced that you think is real quality. Don't worry about the commercial trance 'scene', make your own scene.

Firstly:

AvB's top 20 were selected by his listeners, not by him. I imagine if he chose his 20 favourite tunes of the year it would be a different list. So we can hardly blame him for giving his listeners a chance to voice their opinions.

Secondly:

What is it about the word "commercial" that makes people cringe? Music is an INDUSTRY. By definition it is commercial. Listening to less popular (ie, less commercial) music does not make you a better person, nor does it imply your taste is somehow superior.

So, do you think people should have opinions or not?!? If everyone is entitled to an opinion that what gives you the authority to call someone else's opinion "ridiculous."

I don't understand the point of your post. Are you trying to stop people from posting these threads, because if you are, you're wasting your time. Why don't you just take a chill pill and realize that people are not always going to agree with everyone else and their is nothing you can do about it. Besides, why post a stupid thread about stupid threads? Two wrongs don't make a right.

i was just about to say that

avb isnt comercial
its just that you and a lot of other TA's
are listening to the songs he plays a lot as singles
when uy hear him play it in a set
to you the song is old and overplayed
but the reality is that its not really

and truthfully armin has always played the songs HE wants to play
he requests "carte blache" as he says it
if the songs he likes are the ones youve been listening to
than who are you to complain

commercialism = this is how I got into the trance scene! without ATB - 9 pm I wouldnot have been wasting 5 hours a day on the internet reading threads here and searching for some quality tunes like urban train xpander etc.
