yea, but an AUX input on WHAT?
a lot of things have AUX inputs
my home theatre reciever
my mixer
my amp
my tv
i'm sure there's many more
and i'm sure that what you're asking about pertains to a line level input
there are essentially 2 different kinds of signal strength when dealing with audio
line level (cd player, your computer output, almost everything...)
then there's what's commonly reffered to as a mic level signal
(which covers microphones, turntables, and pretty much anything else that needs a preamp to be brought to a line level)
almost every piece of audio equipment requires a line level signal to work properly
so if it's a mic level signal, then it's preamped and brought to a line level and the piece in question can work with it
that's why if you plug a turntable into an input without a preamp you really won't be able to hear much
(the little switch on mixers that let's you select between phono and line, make sure it's in phono for turntables to activate the preamp)
now i can't remember correctly the exact value in voltage that makes up a line level signal, but i'm sure it's in the area of 1V
and mic level is significantly lower than that (a few millivolts at best)
hope this answered yours or someone else's question
if not, please be more specific in wording your question
