well you see, trance is much bigger over in europe. in america the more commercial trance tunes are played so we don't get to hear as much of the good stuff as the europeans do. that's what sites like these are for.

but i think each country has their own distinct sound, represented by the big-name djs of THAT country...like pvd has a distinct sound (from germany) as opposed to dj tiesto (holland) as opposed to max graham (canada). but it all comes down to the style of that particular dj. it can be argued either way. heh. it's not that difficult to label songs like "dutch trance" or "brit trance" hehehe. i dunno...

definitely

You're right on that. Every country has their own trance scene, but...

US trance is awful. Christopher Lawrence, Sandra Collins, George Acosta??? It's just weak and unemotional compared to the Dutch, German, Finnish, and English kings. I think it has part to do with the lack of respect it gets here, which pushes a lot of new DJs in the house direction..

Max Graham is the one exception to this. He's canadian though, right?

Yes, but the US is important to the whole scene....think Detroit...

Idea yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The US is important for electronic music more then for trance. Up in Canada, the scene has been building for years. The Trance scene that is. From here it has spread south letting the Trance rip into your areas. That is why we are starting to have Canadian DJ's that are unbelievable because the scene has been building here for years too.

And btw how sweet are max's sets??? Pure the way clubs are here.

p.s. when is the next time a huge DJ will be here anyone know? I wanna see AVB, Corsten, or Marco V

I agree, the trance in the US is sad at best. The one exception to the rule is DJ Micro, however. I saw him spin just over a week ago, and he blew me away. He played in a smaller club that wasn't overly crowded. It was very up close and personal. He spun a great mix of progressive and uplifting tunes. He was spinning a few progressive songs to bring you into the groove and then would just slam a great uplifting song into the mix to climax. I went in with not too high expectations and came out proud to live in Michigan for that single night.

The u.s. HAS BEEN important to the whole scene.... the roots of Electronic Music are in Detroit/Chicago but I don't think they are important to the whole scene nowadays.

heh, avb won't be comin' over the north america for some time, cause he's studyin' in europe. that's why he doesn't spin THAT much. but as his popularity grows and grows, he'll be here eventually.

US Trance.. i dunno... sometimes i can hear potentially good tracks. but most of them are deeper and darker.. and doesn't have the melodic touch that i look for i guess..
whereas the trance scene in the UK or Holland or rest of Europe seems to have reach a different level to that of the US..
Detroit has been a great influence to much of the music.. and i guess the club scene down in FLorida and parts of CA aren't that bad either..
Canada has been pretty good too.. and yep.. Max Graham is the export which canadians should be proud of..
since i'm rambling..i might as well go on..

Africa.. i've heard some great parties in South AFrica, Johannesburg n such.. with the likes of Seaman and Kleinenberg, etc who made the crowd go mad...
and this goes with South America too.. with Cream being a major base in S.America.. and the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, and Ariel making appearances.. also with Deep Dish at times, heading put up the deep trance scene..
both of these are coming up there in the trance scene.. and i'm sure with a few more years, it'll be as big down there as it is in the US or Europe..

Asia.. theres an unexpected trance scene there if none of you have been.. i guess, having seen the parties in Singapore, Tokyo and Hongkong give me a lil insight....
but its good out there.. Hong Kong has about as many European big names as London does.. as does SIngapore and Tokyo.. the big parties go on for days and are usually good.

Australia.. i dunno.. i just know of the "Home" presence down there..
and as for
Goa.. we all know wha comes outta there

Cool

Yeah, the U.S. scene has pretty much been a few steps behind the rest of the world when it comes to trance.
I think that a big part of it is due to the fact that here in the states, we have big, fat, arrogant record companies that only know one thing.....$$$$....they don't know or care dick about music. And, it's always been the record companies that dictate to the radio stations just what we can and can't hear. They continue to bombard us with bullshit like Britney, boy bands, rap....more rap and more rap. Just give a 16 year old girl a set of 25 year old tits and it's bound to make money....doesn't matter what it sounds like. They do their best to keep foriegn artists away (unless they are signed up with an American company, of course). And let's face it....the majority of the U.S.of fuckin' A only knows of what it hears on the radio. Thank gawd some of us know better than that. But....I really think that there is hope. I think that we are going to start seeing a much bigger trance scene evolving here in the U.S. and I think that the major player in that happening will be because of a little thing called Napster. True, Napster might be in a downward spiral, headed for who knows what.....but there is no doubt that Napster has opened the eyes of many to the fact that there IS more.....a lot more music to be heard and obtained. And now that people are aware of this, they will not let it go.
I just pray that we don't see the evolution of "trance-rap"
If that happens....someone please come and shoot me.

being right in the middle of america here in KY im fairly well situated to make comments.. here's what i think!
CHRISTOPHER LAWRENCE is good. probably the best thing the us has going for it in the trance world since MICRO. george acosta isnt much in my opinion.. average at best, which means he stands out form the crowd around here... hehe.... i think both lawrence and micro have the raw talent of the big guys across the sea (and the border.. all hail max!) but the scene for which they spin doesnt support the kind of atmosphere or track selection which could make them a worldwide phenomenon. what do you all think?

ps: sandra collins is mainly success ful b/c: 1. kinetic records gave her tranceport 3.
2. she is attractive. that's about all there is to her. in my opinion.
