I think its generally because you simply don't have the level of control with cds as you do with vinyl - and as such the mixing is not as good. However, if someone can mix very well with just CD's then i dont suppose anyone will hate them for mixing CDs, its just usually they arent nearly as good as vinyl djs.

Perhaps people see cd-djs as people who want to use cdrs - and get 10 tracks on a cd for £0.30, rather than get 1 track for £5 - perhaps they arent as dedicated to their music if would rather mix on the cheap than well.

I think all the top name djs use mostly vinyl, and just cd for stuff that hasnt come out on vinyl yet. I hear mauro picotto uses a lot of cds but i dont know really.

Bah, when you said 'CDJs' I thought you meant people who mix using a computer I was about to go off on one about why it really isn't a big deal. Oh well, maybe some other time...

well i wouldnt prefer a "vinyl" dj from a "cd" dj only because the one uses vinyls wich are nice-looking,expensive and kinda rare...thats shit....if the one can mix better he is better but not from what he's using...i know many top-djs that they want to throw a good track on their sets and not playing the same and same and so they use a cd-r because most times the vinyl havent been released yet....on the other hand, why wait a vinyl to get realesed??? u can buy it if u want after but u dont have to wait till the track gets overplayed....

You think a dj who plays 128kbps or even 192kbps songs will ever make success? You think the people can't hear that the song is from a bad quality?

Just my thought

i prefer vinyl, but i do play cd's in my sets... but sometimes you have to if you dont have the latest and greatest tunes, or tunes that are not out yet, or tunes you produce that havent been sent off to be pressed up yet.

for .mp3's, i try to run then threw a few plugings in sound forge before i even thing of spinning them.

Stop generalizing people. I'm sure that many people who use cds instead of vinyl buy hte official cds that are put out by the record company. Also, sometimes it is easier (and cheaper) to find that one hard to find song you've been looking for forever on cd. Of course there are bound to be the people who just use illegally downloaded mp3s but I highly doubt they are spinning in any decent arena.

Vinyl just seems to be the standard of a DJ. Lots of people say with CDs that you could just as much DJ on your computer as with CDs.
