that's a very blunt statement, IMHO. according to you, then, if someone can't distinguish between a french person and an usbekistanian person, that someone is ignorant? you expect too much of other people.

It depends: nowadays, you can't really generalise. Homeland is not an important factor to define what someone looks like. There are black people in France and white people in Uzbekistan... and if you saw them on the street, you'd never be able to find out where they came from.

In my case, I'm Brazilian... what do you expect me to look like? If you saw me on the street, would you know I'm Brazilian? Maybe, maybe not. I used to hang out with Russian people and nobody knew they were foreigners before their opened their mouth and showed their accents. Also, I now hang out with some friends, as Brazilian as I am, but they're Asian-blooded: if you saw them on the street, would you say they're Brazilian? Prolly not

Get my point: maybe people are ignorant about not knowing where Uzbekistan is and stuff, but after the big human migrations in the last couple of centuries, you can't say where someone is from just looking at their faces

you have to understand that here in the united states, people are ignorant, we see a person that is dark skinned we call them mexican, regardless if they are guatemalan (sp), more so ALL asians are grouped into "asian" A person could be vietnamese, chinese, korean, taiwanese, philipino, and be called ASIAN as a stereotypical whole or just chinese, the only country people can recognize.

There will be a day...

...when we look at people and not think, consciously or subconsciously, that the person is of whatever race/origin/nationality, and that you think of the person as just another human being at first encounter.

Regards
