What was the FIRST trance track ever made?

I'm talking about the first track to be of the genre, the first and only, the original. what's the title and the artist?

There's no such thing like "the first trance track", because it was a natural evolution from German techno and being part of a process, the line between techno and trance cannot be marked. I'm gonna look for some early trance and I'll post some recommendations so you'll understand how it happened

There is no such a thing as a first song of a genre. What was the first rap song? Jazz song? Classical composition?

cant help but notice the similarities with bass beats and *gasp* disco. No, I dont think it is.. but, was there some sort of progression from one to the other? Replacement of lyrics/instraments into melody, electronic?

Yes, there is a (strong) link between trance and disco... in a very very very simple explanation, it's something like:

disco -> house -> techno -> trance (but keep in mind that I'm not focusing on details here).

it's disco, but it'll remind you of lots of vocal trance tracks

yea...music has evolved from one genre which in turns might create a new genre so there really isn't a FIRST trance track

I think it was the first song which was called 'trance'.

dance 2 trance - hello san francisco... that was released on suckmeplasma records (a subsiduary of lightning records) in 1992 [shameless plug] which i recently remixed [/shameless plug]

but yeah, u cant really name the first trance track, as it probably wasnt known as trance when it was made.. people would have classified it with electro, or techno, or house, or (etc etc)

its only really been in the last 10-15 years that the specific genre name has existed

Allow me, the old fart to share some of my usless trivia diversity...

I would definitely say that trance can probably be traced to the roots back in the days of disco, if not earlier. All depends on your idea of what trance is... I would say that some of the older stuff such as Pink Floyd's "Momentary lapse of reason" or "dark side of the moon" can be considered pseudo-trancey stuff.

I can go back even earlier... Most of the musicians say that they started with "Kraftwerk" - which I agree were the pioneers of "electronica". If you wanna do some digging, try looking here:

3. Space (french band - not the american alt-rock band)- legend has it that Jean Michelle Jarre was once a member. They started back in late 70's
4. Jean Michelle Jarre - by far, one I would consider as the father of Electronica as we know it
5. Tangerine Dream - don't believe the hype, they are NOT new age
6. The Orb
7. 808 State
8. Front 242
9. Praga Khan - anyone remembers "Injected with a poison"?
10. Oooh, let's not forget Koto - 70's/80's - Japanese synth player at its best
11. Laserdance - got every single CD
13. LA Style - "James brown is dead"
14. Sunscream

and list goes on... I found a tape from Tresor '92 with some PVD on it!!!!

I also have Mauro Picotto's "R.A.F. - Bakerloo Symphony" - circa '95 - sounds like a start of today's trance. Back then, I heard "insomnia" by faithless on the radio and I became a trance addict, without even realizing it. The list goes on, but this should give a you a starting point.
