* * * Stanton Trackmaster II SK - Hissing noise problem!!!! * * *

Hey people,

I've recently noticed a problem with my Trackmaster II SK. It makes the annoying "hissing" noise on emphasized S's and i'm just wondering whats up with that??

I've previously seen a thread on this problem which i think John Smith had, but i had Ortofons back then..!

I've tried my Trackmaster I SK's, and they hiss less, while the cheaper and lower quality Shure SC35C's ironically don't hiss at all!!!!

So does anyone have the same problem? Can it be solved? What can i do???!!??!

thanks in advance!!!

yep, they hiss.

i was able to fix the problem by applying a bit more weight, i was just too squeamish about ruining my records i guess..

i have it on 3 grams now, it's better, but still hisses a bit.. i think i am gonna get different needles next time.

I use those needles,,, they are a bit noisy. I have the weight about 3.5 grams. Ive never used anything better than the tracknaster II, so i wouldnt be able to tell you if it is abnormal. Long before the trackmasters, i was using the basic stanton (forgot the name), but they are the cheapest, like for 30 bucks. But those just completely sucked, cause the bass would distort, especially on heavy bass tracks.

yeah, i was scared for my vinyls too, i had it at 1.5 grams for a while, and 90% of the time it sounds good, but certain high treble sounds are hissy.

at 3 grams it mostly solves the problem, but my poor records!

i have the trackmaster II RS, and god they are awful. They sound worse than my stanton 500 II. The sound they produce sounds so distorted and ive tried setting it at diff weights. Never get anything that ends in "masters" by stanton. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

so pissed
