I've been spinning for a little over a year now, and I haven't gotten much live experience yet, so i was hoping you guys could help me out. When you play live, is your goal to spin what you like and spin it as well as you can, so you can get them to like your music? Or is your goal to bend to the crowds taste as much as much as possible?
Any help would be appreciated by my future fans

I think you're a bad bad dj if you only play what you like and not what the crowd likes.

A DJ is only suppost to play what he likes. Cause if he's good, the people will like the tracks too. And this means he'll have his own style.
If every DJ would play what the crowd wants, most DJ's could start looking for another job.

Play the tunes you like but base the tune selection on what the crowd want! What I mean is, if the crowd are partial to a bit of hardness, play harder tunes that you like yourself! That way, you'll all be happy!

I agree that every dj has his/her own style, but when at a party, the deejay should play what the crowd wants. Here in Belgium, you have lots of small parties. Most of the deejays that play there are quite good, but some tend to really suck at choosing the right tracks. They play what they want and sometimes that's completely the opposite of what the audience wants.

the mark of a good dj is keeping to his style and not let the country he is playing in dictate his style. A few times ive listened to int dj's and thought to myself "i can hear this everyweek @ my local". I think the hole point of seeing a int is that he brings something which the local dj's dont have. different records.
many dj's think they have to change their style just because there playing in different countries, they play well known tracks and dont pull out the gemms from overseas that ppl wanna hear. the new white labels, up and coming artists new releases and their unique track selection are thrown out the window in alot of cases and then drop la la land
on the other hand you dont wanna totaly alienate the audience but i think u will find that most ppl just want them to play how they do in their home country.
