Coming to London

My name is Michael Watson I live in Perth Western Australia and I am preparing for a trip to the UK in August there were a few questions I wanted to ask. I am a DJ in Perth and I wanted to continue DJing whilst in the UK I play the following styles Trance/Hard Trance/Breaks/Prog/Drum&Bass/Hardcore. You can download a copy of my latest Trance/Hard Tramce mix from here http://music.globalbeatz.net/dj-mix-mp3/2794 How hard would it be to get work in london and what sort of things would I need? Another question is whilst in the UK I want to head out clubbing. I was looking at investing in a club universe card. Could someone tell me if this is a good choice or am I wasting my money? I am also looking for a place to rent whilst there and I am not sure of what area would be good to live. Thanks in advance. PS if anyone would like me to send them a copy of my CD just PM me.

I would say it was just about 100% impossible to dj here at a bar or club on a visit alone. Unless you have some very good friends that are already doing just that, then you'll need to ask them.

Especially as only a handful of clubs here will play tance, and they're not exactly the samll ones. No bars will. D&B and Breaks are a little more likely tho.

I've never heard of a club universe card, but an average club nite here will cost you between £15 and £25, depending on where you go.

Living and working are two very big questions, guss it depends what you plan on working as whilst you're here.

How long you here for?

Thanks for you help. I will be staying for at least 6 months. I am currently working full time as a system administrator which I have been doing for the last 7 years... I am also a graphic artist/animator. I have done flyers for events and the like. How hard is it to organise an event? Do most clubs welcome the idea or do most clubs have established nights. I am just very keen to DJ no matter if I have to promote myself. Thanks.

Well that sort of time would make things easier. But i think most clubs and bars across london, certanly in the trendier parts have nites on for pretty much every day of the week. Personally i'd try to fit into one than start your own - promoters/bar owners/friends of the former are pretty possessive about their little slots of fame here - its a dog eat dog world out there on a friday nite

i would imagine that in support there are more job possibilities than any other area. before u get over here hook yourself up with some recruitment agencies online like reed or corps, people like that. i don't know their urls but do a google, also check monster.co.uk and totaljobs.co.uk, things like that

in a bar, probably between £5 and £8, altho bars at the higher end of that price range are less likely to serve red bull.

in a pub, slightly less.
