DJing, business & $$$....
This is what I don't get...
You're a DJ.
You run your service like a business.
You need to eat. You need a roof over your head (if you live with your mommie and daddie this won't apply).
People complain about a guy (not necessarily Oakenfold) making money.
What's the point of being in a business that doesn't have a favorable ROI?? (Return On Investment).
It's so true about what they say.
The higher up the ladder of success you go; the more your ass is exposed.
Why does a DJ have to stay poor in order to stay uber-cool and underground? Heaven forbid they become successful and actually sell their services for big time money for fear of 'selling out'.
Is it because money corrupts?
That's the lamest excuse I've ever heard.
Money provides jobs.
You go buy a car; you're creating jobs.
You go out to eat; you're creating jobs.
You fly to your next gig; you're creating jobs.
Giving money to charity helps people.
How many times have we all wished when an angering situation arises that we had the money to make that 'change'.
Money can.
Poor people can't help poor people.
So for those of you that think DJ's should be broke, I got some news for you.
Get some basic business skills but in the meantime be the best you can be; forget the na-sayers.
Envelope and guard yourself with passion for your music; it's only work when you don't feel like doing it.
If you enjoy what you do, time flies and the money will come.
Delayed gratification; learn it.
But in the meantime, stay true and play on...

AMEN TO THAT
yes alot of them are expensive to get and stuff...they travel all the way to do a gig
heres something i gotta add
the promoters who bring in the dj, pay off the dj whatever he asks for and pays for his hotel room and flight
the promoters then have the event, charge whatever they want to at the door, break even after half the club is full and then make at least 10% the cost of the dj in the form of profits..the bigger name the dj is, the more profits they get...those are the scammers for u..the djs are celebrities, if an actor can get paid 3-4 million for a movie, 25000US for a night is nothing for an amazing night

i agree with this too...the promoters and the club owners are the only scammers..even the dj's are sometimes scammed..there is nothing wrong with making money..especially by doing something u love

sure, but I think that the dj/producer can get greedy with too much money income and by that, caring less to produce good tunes since he know his name already sells good. This, ofcourse doesn't happen to all artists, but some.
Imo, if you earn alot more money than you need, you should donate some of the money to the people who really needs it, not so you can buy that super-expensive car or that big screen TV, but so that you can help that starving child in Africa etc instead.
that's what I think

Great points and post. Dance producers are underpaid for the work they do. Due to the low exposure and popularity they have. Producing takes a lot of time and talent depending on the quality of the production. For a week's work(sometimes more or less) given that the track is worth signing, a producer merely gets paid $500-2000 or so for the track depending on who the producer is. On the other hand DJ's get paid $2000-20,000 for a single gig. Commericialization or Popularization of electronica has its benefits.

money is good. every dj picks up his first vinyl so he can make it big..be heard by millions of people..and put out what he thinks is great music..if this wasnt true..all dj's would just spin at weddings and birthdays.

I respect djs that get a ton of money because they do deserve it for all of their hardwork that they have done, but im still gonna argue what you quoted. Money can't buy happiness, unless it buys me a lot of vinyl then im happy lol. [j/k]

thats easy to say and all, but i don't want to hear that from anyone but god damn mother theresa cause just average people saying that is stupid...there is no point in pointing out what other people should do with their money unless you live on the bare minimum yourself...which i don't think i am so i'm not gonna bitch about rich being too rich.

despite what u think, these are current prices for DJs in the UK (according to a very reliable source of mine)
they are the expensive ones, and oakenfold + tiesto get blamed for selling out and costing to much to see... yet PvD doesn't, i'm not gonna figure it out
