Im new to TT's. does any cartridge fit technics? whats the difference between needles and cartridge and stylus? im gonna get the Shure
m44-7's, do i need an adapter or anything? How long do they last and if it goes bad, do i need a new stylus or cartridge or what?

ok heres a quick reply... if you got new turntables, they should have come with headshells. a cartridge mounts to the headshell which mounts to the tonearm. the stylus is what actually makes the "needle" a needle. it is the part that contains the needle so thats what you will have to replace. im not sure how long they last but you know you need new ones once the needle starts jumping grooves. mine have lasted 6 months, and then i upgraded to ellipticals. im not at my comptuer in my room since im in the library rite now or i would post some links for you.... use the search button and you will find some internet sites that people post up that hve full blown explanations on how everything works. theres way too much to cover and there have been plenty posts about this in the past....i hopt that helps for now, congratulations and welcome to the club. let us know how the progress goes

Thanks, but I was wondering also:

I have Numark TT-1520's, and what should I do if I want to replace a needle? Will any model/make fit, or are there special ones for some turntables? And how do you get the needle out of the cartridge? In my case it's all one shell.

I have the same tables and if you have the old catridges that came with the tables, the needles are really rare, what i did was that i got my friends old headshell, catridge and needles from him. You'll notice the sound dif right away. It is really hard to find those needles and what i recommend is to save up and just get new headshell ,catridge and needles right away.
