sound card question

im planning to get the Gina 24 by Echo it has 2 input and 8 output... what i dont get is.. arent i suppose to need more input then output?

as in what if I had to lead more than 1 thing into my sound card for recording? coz it says 2 input and each input jack is those big headphone jacks.. wouldnt i need 2 for 1 input to be stereo? im just kinda confused how this works.. wut would the use of 8 output be for?

hope someone can explain to me

.

wow.. this seems to be another good choice.. hows the performance of it? can it support heavy data processing? as in if i work with a lot of WAVs .. multitracking .. would it be slow and causes error .. or everything is smooth with low latence? my usb midi box is from this brand too!

Um, what? (I assume "o" is "0".) Either there is no latency because latency simply doesn't apply to whatever you do (i.e. you don't do anything that would generate latency on any card), or they scammed you.

My card (Nuendo Audiolink 96 -- clone of the RME Hammerfall) has some of the lowest latency around. And it goes down to 1.5 ms.

Latency also depends on processor speed.

To the original poster: The Nuendo I have has 8 1/4" ins and outs, and assorted others (Multiset interface). You might check that out, too, though it will run you up near $1000. I got it simply because it has a PCMCIA version, so I can hook it up to my laptop. It also has a PCI version.

Even if you get a card with only 2 inputs, though, you can always get a mixer and use that. Oh, and I believe you might be able to chain hardsynths through each other, assumuing they have audio ins (well, all but one does), and then run the combined audio out into the card. Don't quote me on that, though. I've never tried it.

Unless you have some specific reason you have to have more inputs on the card itself...

oops sorry, o does mean 0 latency.

and yes i do mean 0 latency when using midi equipment, ie access virus c and a cs2x keyboard, no scamming involved.
Another card that gives you 0 sec latency is the digidesign 001.

ur quite right to mention processor power also, this contributes significantly and as my processor is a brand new p4 3.06 with 1000meg of ddr 333mhz ram i have no problems.

you are also correct in saying that you can join hardware synths together. This is done using the thu midi connection, and is known as daisy chaining.

Technically there is no such thing as absolute 0 latency...

I have only just started using logic as it is a requirement on my university course, as well as pro-tools and cubase.

At the moment i am still having a hard time with the environments and am struggling to sort this problem out.

However what i have seen so far looks good, i am running logic 5.2.

I must say however that it will have to be pretty spectacular to get me away from cubase SX permanently.

If u want to chat on msn add me.

enfuse dub, teah u r quite right, its an imposibility, however doesnt stop manufacturers using 0 latency as a selling point, and i am probably as close as you can get, says zero on my system, although as u quite correctly pointed out this is infact impossible no matter how low the MS gets.
