Pop is always so "popular" because it's easily obtained to hear where ever you are. It's on the radio, in music shops, shopping malls, in your car, in the toilet & everywhere else.
Because of that, people listen to it through habbit I think, and just put up with it. So in a sense most of the poulation in the world does just that. Most people can't be bothered going to the length that you or I do by searching for as much new Trance or any other particular style other than Pop, well, that's the way I look at it anyway.

Yeap, " POP " popular music.... is annoying!!! totally... cant stant thos Nsync, and BSB, I try to get everyone exposed to trance.. my sister, parents, even granparents
:-)~.. hehehe.. but its ashame that they dont understan the trance.. they say is annoyng.. im like WTF!!! this tune is the most beautifull thing ( when Playin Rank 1- airwave ) they dont even like that.. just alice deejay.. they say POP music is easier to listen to, and has a meaning ?!?!?! so thats when you come to a conclusion that Trance music is for the hardcore people.. the younger generation.. and well.. the younger generation thats into pop.. guess we gotta feel sorry for them.. and I dont blame them, blame the stupid monopoly that there is in the USA, and maybe other countries.. ( except Holland, UK, germany.. they are way too exposed to the good stuff)

blah, I have distaste for those chemically-engineered-for-$$$ pop groups (backstreet boys, nsynx, britney-ho, etc). They make me sick... don't deserve to be called artists at all.

Perhaps, but keep in mind that in every country pop is more or less the most dominant kind of music.
And think about trance. This may sound blasphemous to the trance community, but we tend to like trance tunes that are closer to pop. You can't escape this simple truth. Somebody mentioned Rank 1-Airwave, that's as close to pop as trance can come.
Have you noticed how on this site techno is much, much less appreciated than trance? That's because trance as a music genre is closer to pop, than is techno. It's got melody and frequent vocals, for example, unlike techno.
We simply have to face the fact that "easier-to-swallow" music influences all of us, even in the trance genre. If music is accessible, it will appeal to a larger audience.

The thing about pop music, is that it is just that, popular. What makes something popular? Accessability, and momentum. The problem all of us have is that most art is made to be inaccessable, and separating it from the masses. All the music that is made accessable, is dumbed down, trimmed, mass produced versions of the real thing, and you get to the state where we are today. Manufactured pop bands are not artists! Believe me, if I ever get to producing, I will make semi-accessable music.
Now, its not always been like that. If you look at wack art nowadays vs warhol in the 60s, that is a perfect example. Everyone could see Warhol's works and understand it. Go to 99.9% of gallery artists today, and you need an MFA to get it. Or, 80 years ago when classical music was in the mainstream. Debussy and Ravel were geniuses in their own right -and- were pop artists of their day.
You don't know how many people whose extent of musical knowledge has been 'Castles in the Sky' - i've shown them Tiesto, Digweed, Cass, whatever - and the've loved it even more. But that's the corporations for you, controlling the airwaves and CDs we can buy...
