Well, Macs do have their use, I'll grudginly admit, though the only reason that some Pros choose mac over PC is because of software or stupidity. That is why macs were knows as great graphic art machines until all of the software came out on PC. PC is defintely the way to go because of the price, speed and wide availability. Unless you have some very specific software that is only for mac, then go with PC, you'll be much happier that you did. I'm guessing that since you're asking around that you don't have an unlimited budget, so go for PC. Check out this site for some amazing deals! http://www.e4me.com/

They are offering an athlon XP 2200+ with 512MB RAm, 100GB HD, CD-R, and DVD, for $749. It comes with a decent video card, and I would buy your own soundcard for recording etc. No monitor is included in this, but being that you were on a computer when you wrote this, I'm betting that you have one

Both Mac's and PC's are good. They both have their own advantages and disadvantages which complement eachother. It all depends on what you prefer.
What are you going to do with your computer? Alot of sound editing, production? Are you very technicly proficiant with computers?
I like both Mac's and PC's. I prefer the PC over the Mac though because its cheeper and I can easily configure it and add new parts and the such.

i was juss playin about the macs.... they really are 4% of the market tho. The reason i prefer windows machines is because they are more diverse than macs, and you can get them to handle more instuctions then macs as well. I do admit that apple makes their computers look quite sexy... The main reason y PC's are dominate the copmuter world is mainly because Apple has had the same problem since when they first started...only they can make mac's. You cant build a mac like you can a PC. id ur on a budget, and you look into buying a PC..i suggest you get a Dell computer. They're good copmuters, you get a nice service plan with them too. you can get a demension p4 2.0 GHz for $600. (Comp, monitor, keyboard/mouse) and just get a nice soundcard, hook urself up. Look into it

if I had the money to buy myself a Mac G4 believe me I would
for audio, macs are better than windows -- but not by much
its the fact that the way macs are structured internally enhance their speed and reliability and just make it a better system to use when dealing with audio
but everyone has their own opinions, just get whats easier for you

Macs are NOT better than PCs for audio..!!! Not in a million years..
Gimme P-4 or AMD with 2800+ rating, gimme Sound Blaster Audigy 2, which JUST came out, gimme milllions of audio programs that companies make for PCs (audioforge, wavelab, pcdj, bmp studio, virtual turntables, etc, etc, etc) or better yet gimme those professional $400 sound cards (forgot the name, made in UK)......
and then find me a mac to match that PC...

a mac G4 dual processor, digiman's digi001 set with outboard mixers, MOTUs digital performer or ProTools, MAX/MSP, plugins galore and that'll match it. granted, it'll cost you a SHITLOAD of money as well as your ass.....but it'll do one hell of a job.

my personal opinion....PCs have more versatility and are more affordable for the amateur musicians like us; Macs are for a more professional setting for people with money.

exactly, i only use the progs that are professional stuff
i'm just starting to learn logic, that's what my production partner uses and has on his mac

that's why i want to get a G4 powerbox with dual 1ghz processors
i've used them in almost every radio station i've worked at (and i've worked at a few as a producer)
they're reliable (no blue screen of death every 5 mins)
they're fast
they're made to do the job

anyone serious about audio knows that a mac with all the toys will run circles around a PC
sure it's expensive, but to me it's worth it
