Line-In Question

what would i do if my line-in is fked, what i mean is that the sound coming to the left channel is almost cut by half which pisses me off a lot!

I wanted to know if there is a way to maybe to fix this ?

i think i have an old soundcard somewhere here (soundblaster 16), if i find this sound card would i be able to use both sound cards without running into any window problems?

thanks in advance.

Well, if your line in is messed up, then you have three options, none of which are good. First you can try to fix it yourself or get it repaired proffesionally. This can either fry your system if you mess up or will cost you a good percentage of what the card costs in the first place if not more. Second, you can try recording in mono, but then your recording will sound like shit. Third, you can break down and buy another soundcard.

You should be able to run your computer just fine with two soundcards. I've done it before myself. I ran into a few minor problems with games and some applications, but as long as you select the specific soundcard instead of using default selection, you should be okay.

Are u sure its the line in port of the sound card? Its possible that it is the cable. Try messing with the cable, or replace it. Ive had similar problems to where the right side was louder (noticed while recording), and when i jiggled the cable, it became erratic. Then, i replaced the cable and problem resolved.

oops i shouldve mentioned that it wasn't the cable because i check and it was fine. The way i checked was to record with the microphone to see if it's the cable or even my mixer for that matter and it was perfect with the microphone at least the left and right.

I have checked every litttle detail in Windows too as i am running the Sound blasters software, i got a sound blaster live sound card.
