Newcastle v Arsenal - your thoughts on Sunday's game?

Opinions on the game and Neale Barry's refereeing?

Damn. I didn't mind the reffing but that's because Arsenal usually gets the benefit of the doubt.

The booing that Bergkamp got when he went off was great!

I'd like to hear Neale Barry explain who he thought Bergkamp's pass was intended for! Arse Wenger said "The sending-off didn't change the game a lot". He obviously wasn't watching the same game I was.

Robert didn't even attempt to get back 10 yards so it doesn't matter who Bergkamp was trying to pass the ball to

Shay Given got my man of the match though, that goal he saved with his head was unbelieveable.

I thought the game was pretty even, Arsenal dominated the first half but Newcastle were on top in the second. The sending off of Robert seemed to have inspired the Newcastle team.

I say the ref should have been arrested. His decisions were criminal

Bergkamp can't have it both ways. Either he was taking a free kick or he wasn't. He took a free kick, Robert got hold of it. Tough luck. You can't take the free kick and then protest "he was in my way". Shouldn't have kicked it then. A blatant case of 'trying to have it both ways'.

I think the sending off had a huge impact on the game. I agree Newcastle were taking control of the second half , but Arsenal are an amazing side on the counter attack and to push hard for a winner with ten men would have been suicidal. With 11 men I feel the game was ours for the taking, and this result has massive implications for the rest of the title race. If Barry wants to send off Robert for kicking a ball, he should also have sent off Campbell for a spate of bad tackles, and Cole for his persistent bad tackling and diving (for which he is notorious). Soon there wouldn't be a game on, it was an extremely harsh decision on a pitch where everyone's emotions were running very high. In short, we were robbed.

Even if Robert had his foot in the way, when Bergkamp kicked it, it hit the inside of his leg, so even if he had have been satnding still, the ball would have hit him.
and the argument that ive heard about Robert getting his second yellow for blasting the ball is shite too, he was actually having a shot, i sit right behond the goal and seaman was way off his line when the ball struck Lauren it was going towards the goal. also the reff had his hand in his poclket before robert kicked it.

Well glad to find another real footy fan on this site...bit late in responding, I know, but the match vs. Newcastle. Question to ask.....what's was all the fuss about Bergkamp and the scolding look Bobby Robson gave him?? If the cretin stands in front of him TWICE, while he's trying to take a free kick, he deserves a red card AND a kick in the bollocks. Pisses me right off, up there with shirt tugging, conning referees (Shearer), rolling around (Lauren, Edu), and worst of all - claiming a throw-in/corner after you know full well you kickked the bloody ball out. Bergkamp is a genius, and I thought intelligent fans would get the picture. You're not Mancs after all.
