The Turkish parliament unexpectedly refused to allow U.S. troops on its soil, creating a major problem for America in the Iraqi war plans.

He, maybe Bush thought that been the US it would be a piece of cake to attack Iraq. There's a reason why things happen. Right ?

I really doubt this will be last word on the subject and in the end I expect at least some (maybe not the 60K the Pentagon wanted) troops to be based in Turkey.

I'm glad to see that Turkey was able to put there feelings about war ahead of a big check.

Na, they said that MAYBE they'll re-vote. BUt it was clearly said that there was not going to be more talking about it, but since on tuesday there's another of their meetings, they MIGHT bring that into subject.

95% of Turks are against this war. The Turkish government shouldn't even give a thought to letting US troops in. Respect to the Turkish gov't for standing up for what their people believe in.
The decision by the Turkish government to stand against the US is not becuase of local public opinion, it has more to do with the fact that Turkey assosiates itself more with Europe, rather than the USA.
We all know the stance of Germany and France on this war, and as these two countries form the foundation of the EU it is in Turkey's best interest to follow, simply because Turkey wishes to join the EU.
This one-off payment from the US will be church change compared to the benefits Turkey will recieve from trading within the EU (potentially billions per year).
Simply putting it, Turkey was NEVER going to support the USA and jepordise it's chances of joining the European Union. Turkey's business is with France, Germany and co. and not with the USA.
