It's all pretty easy

Cubasis is a very cut down Cubase. In particular, Steinberg have put a tight limit on the number of audio tracks you can have in Cubasis.

Cubase VST (5.x) used to be Steinberg's fully fledged sequencer. This changed with the introduction of Cubase SX, which had a new audio engine and user interface (and lots more). Following SX was SL, which shares the new UI and audio engine, but is less powerful than SX (i.e. has some limitations imposed).

Can't comment on Logic, never used it...

Yup Tranceinmysoul pretty much said it all. Cubase SX/SL/XTC is based on the Nuendo engine (Nuendo is their full media production package, cubase is the music production package), which is supposed to be better (although some people are complaining the midi clock doesn't work as good as on VST, some hardware seems to drift with it). It's also optimized for Win2k/XP.

Soon Nuendo 2.0 will be released, and it will bring a lot of new features (VST engine will be upgraded to 3.0). As SX/SL/XTC is based on Nuendo, I think they will come up with a major update of Cubase also.

What is better? Well until some years ago Macs were the king in DAW's. Real pro studio's used either Protools or Logic, and cubase was considered as a little brother. Logic and Cubase were used on PC's also, but if you wanted to be pro, you had to go the mac way.

Nowadays the differences between PC and Mac are not as big anymore (in sheer power the PC even surpasses the Mac). As Emagic removed Logic for the PC, there are basically three big contenders remaining for PC : Protools, Cubase and Sonar. The first one is a big name in the media industry, but they have the bad habit to keep their systems closed (you need Digidesign hardware to work best, and that hardware doesn't work optimally with other software packages). Cubase is what comes closest to what Logic was before on the PC. Sonar has some great features also, but I think most people will still go for Cubase.

In fact you could say that on mac it's the same stuff, except you have Logic and Digital Performer also in the contender list. But I'd say for music most people will still go for Logic or Protools.
What is best? I think it's a matter of taste. Nowadays most of those packages have similar features, but a different approach to use them. I'd say Logic is the most powerful in total, but also has the steepest learning curve.
Cubase SX is a very strong contender. Don't forget they are still at their first versions. If Steinberg continues to develop that package like they do now, it can become even more powerful over time.

I'd say that choosing between those two will be an endless discussion, almost as endless as the old vinyl vs cd discussion. You have people that are going full time for one side, and others will go for the second option, but you can't say there's a definite winner or loser.

Till now i have been using logic 5.. and the pruformance sux ( its not my comp). So when i saw logic 6 come out only for mac i was wondering if it is worth 2 get a mac with logic 6 or move over 2 cubase.

So i think ill move over to cubase .. Just one last question , if u sey cubase sx is the best. what is the latest version ?

Once you've got Cubase SX just visit the Steinberg website and download the latest update. For PC I think it's something like 1.051 just now, but I'm not really sure...

Latest version of SX is 1.051, also known as 1.05.61

Performance wise, be sure to have a soundcard with decent ASIO drivers, they will play the biggest role into having low latency.
