I really want to buy Final scratch so i can
start saving money for other things. I spend way to much money on vinyl now, and i will be spending way to much in the future.
Other then buying a labtop, what are the other downsides of purchasing Final scratch? Would you get it? Why and why not?

I am totally going to get FinalScratch. I have been looking at this product for almost a year now and am still really excited. I totally want to get it so I don't have to drop some much $$ on records anymore, but I am really only a bedroom DJ and I (not that I want to preach or anything) think that is is pretty fucked up to spin with pirated mp3s if you actually spin out and get paid. That said because of FinalScratch maybe we will see some nice legal music downloading services so I can buy some trax for less then vinyl.

As for the upsides it seems really awsome and I have read lots of good things about it. However there are some downsides, because it really runs on linux (don't be worried you can run Windows and Linux on you computer) a lot of laptops have some troubles getting it to work. So I you say if you don't have a laptop yet BE SURE you buy one that you know works with FS. Go to the web site (www.finalscratch.com) and see there list of "approved somputers". Also most of the house/trance/DnB/Techno DJs don't like the "timecode" records because there are rather thin, tho Stanton has recently said they will be releaseing a thicker record for the electronic music DJs.

Stanton has also singed a deal with Traktor and there will be a new verion of FS that has the Traktor engine and the FS interface and will run on Macs. Personaly I am probably going to get this version because the software interface will be nicer and it shouldn't have the install problems of the Linux/PC version. They say the mac version will run under OS X. The mac version should be out in April i think, I am going to see what people say about the Mac version and if they say it rocks, then I will get a new iBook or an older TiBook but if it sucks I will just get the PC version prob.

I got final scratch a month ago. It takes a GOOD month to get it working flawlessly, and to get used to it. I've been running it perfect with no problems for about two weeks and I am in love. All the songs I could never get on vinyl I have. I spent WAY too much money on vinyl and this is the perfect answer. I defiantly recommend it.

well only bad thing i can see about final scratch, is the legal right to the producers issue! cause 95% of all tracks played on final scratch will be mp3's... and yes i can see its easy etc.. but then again... the artists doesnt earn any money on it.. so il stick to my real 12"s

I see what you mean. I still collect regular vinyl. My collecion is up to 500+ Most of the songs i spin on FS i have the real copy on vinyl. But i cant say this about everyone. I dont know how a product like this could ever be released. It will kill the music industry if it gets big IMO

I think Final Scratch is basically a great product. Especially for the bedroom DJ, or learning DJ, because it makes things cheaper to begin with. That said, there are certainly moral issues that spring to mind. I don't see the problem with spinning MP3s, even if you are paid to do so... aslong as you own the rights to play those MP3s - ie. you have bought a copy of the track and converted it to MP3 for your personal use.

I know that's a bit of a double standard (for lack of a better term), but I guess that is just where I draw the line - from learning to DJ at home, to doing gigs for money.

If FS works as well as everyone says it does, and I'm sure it does... I'd love to have it!

well yeah... thats an idealic way of looking on it.. but im 110% sure that it will never happen... mp3's is so easy to get a hold on.. so should ppl start paying for them? when lots of ppl dont really have any morally issues when it comes to stealing hardworking artists.. money..

and why ripping ur own vinyls.. to mp3 and then go use final scratch? i really doubt any1 would buy final scratch for that use! sorry to say
