Effects/Tricks on DJM-600?

Hey All,

What kind of tricks do you guys pull on this mixer? Using the effects/sampler function, that is. I use a lot of flanger, echo, and delay, but those are simple obvious ones. Just wondering if anyone have any more advanced tricks that wows the crowd?

For some reason, I just can't find a use for pan, trans, reverb, and pitch. I've played around with those, and it just doesn't sound right. I mean, they don't sound out of place, but on the other hand, they don't fit in perfectly.

Also, if anyone knows any cool tricks using the sampler, please do tell! Thanks in advance!

I got one with trans for you.

Set the trans tempo to the middle. On the last beat of the phrase just before the kick, hit the effects button and then hit it again to turn it off. The effect is you drop the last beat (and sound) for a beat and it makes the kick that much more explosive. Also leaves the audience hanging for a split second.

Reverb I usually use in a chain effect for long build tracks. On every last measure of the phrase, I would do an effect. Flanger, Pitch, Reverb. Set the Reverb on high so it's a noisey 4 beats before the kick.

A flanger trick is again last measure of phrase. You should have flanger on slow (last button to the right) and already on. I turn down the volume of the effects so it's inaudible. On the last measure, I turn up the flanger volume to max as I turn down the bass to minimum. I do this b/c the flanger effect adds volume. The sound that comes out is a bass drop plus flanger. On the kick turn the bass back to normal and turn off the flanger.

I follow the beat structure when I do effects. I've never just throw in a flanger in an arbitary place. I have a few more but you get the idea. I like to hear more tricks from others.

Set Echo's parameter to 2 and it's depth at default. At any 4th beat hit the effects and hit it off.
Or during a break you can use this and increase the parameter by 2 every 2nd or 4th beat...

for the pan, you can add to a build by slowly decreasing the pan until you finally hit 0 (never tried on a 600, but on the 500 / efx box, worx just fine)

this is good for hard house djs or people who like to do cuts
as you do a cut, turn on the echo then if you pop in beat on every 2nd beat or so for a measure it sounds cool. then as you drop the song back turn off the echo
i've never actually done this myself, but i've heard it done and it sounds neat

i don't know if that made any sense...
if it didn't, i can try explain a bit better

go and listen to that video of umek in the music discussion section.

He gets the build up using the sampler on the600.

the tune being played is brian zentz - d-clash.(original). He makes it sound brilliant using the sampler.

Compare the tune using the sampler and then without. It's brilliant.

Drum roll- Echo at 217

Flange pretty mix does it all itself

Jamie Anderson- Dont stop break down- Filter start at 150 and work down the parameter

Electronic reveb that picotto uses alot Echo at 5 and work from one to ten(sounds like the break down in Hong Kong)

pitch can be used to make different sound ing break downs just kill the bass as you tap the button with it set at + or - 100
