Exclamation Victor Dinaire; The man, the CDs, the soon to be LEGEND

I came across this article online, and I think you guys should check it out. It's from an Arkansas-based Magazine and reviews Victor's CD compilations along with giving you some background info on the DJ.

I'll say it again:
IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN/HEARD Victor Dinaire, you are MISSING OUT!
this is the link to the article below(http://www.pbcommercial.com/display/inn_briefs/AA1.TXT)

Also, here is the link to his latest set, Gatecrasher @ Arc, written by LuNaSeA and I: http://trance.nu/v3/article_show.php?id=53

And if you want some of his current livesets, PM me. I'll post more on that later.

This guy will be a legend

MIXING MUSIC IN A TRANCE: Victor Dinaire's energetic dance music and catchy electronic melodies

By Kristofer Upjohn/Of the Commercial Staff

It started as a joke, said Victor Dinaire, who went on to compile and mix the first trance CD I ever bought.

"It," by the way, is the idea of Dinaire DJing.

He and his friends used to hang out at various dance venues and "I always left unsatisfied," he said. At the end of the day, Dinaire knew what he didn't want but was left wondering what music exactly he did want.

After a while, "the joke was getting a little more and more serious."

And then inspiration struck -- in the form of goa trance.

Goa, a dark, psychedelic edgy form of trance music (sort of LSD turned electronic dance music), became an influence to the budding DJ, who said he likes the "older goa stuff." Dinaire likes trippy music.

But his tastes aren't limited to that. As a DJ mixing music, "I like to venture off into different genres."

His first DJ mixed compilation was Logic Trance 4 on Logic Records.

"Logic Trance 4"

Folks, this is the first trance CD I ever bought.

Victor Dinaire did well to kick this one off with the quirky, hard-hitting and trippy, R2-D2 on a rampage "Science Fiction."

Ironically, this was also Dinaire's first CD. Here for the first time, he explored trance territory to which he would return.

Dark but melodic, "Logic Trance 4" features big beats, an electro-psychedelic influence and sounds that are big but not cluttered, spartan and full at the same time.

It combines elements of goa/psychedelic trance, hard trance and melodic trance into a ear-popping compilation of night time music. -- A

He got to that point the old-fashioned way. "I just worked my way up." Dinaire landed a job as an intern at Logic Records. While putting in hard hours at his job, he employed a little creative problem solving.

The ambitious artist would mix tapes, call clubs ("I'm from Logic Records."), slap Logic stickers on his tapes and mail them in Logic packaging. And, of course, he played his stuff around the office.

Eventually he worked his way to getting to compile his own disc, Logic Trance 4. "I earned it. I earned the Logic Trance 4 CD," Dinaire said.

Of it's style, he said, "it's really broad." Besides the goa and melodic influences, the muse dropped in a little Eastern European. (Dinaire's family is Albanian.)

I asked him if there was any particular musical influence growing up. He said no particular sound dominated and listed Billy Joel, Twisted Sister, Motley CrŸe and others as some of his growing up listening pleasures.

Dinaire recalled being 18 and in New York for the first time, where he heard hard acid trance for the first time and was "blown away." This was in late 1993. On leaving the club, he and his friends were in "complete shock from the experience we had."

A couple of months later, they returned. And there was no turning back.

Trance basically picked up where techno and house music left off. House often contains the same beat (a steady thump) as trance but trance tends to be more melodic where house is typically very repetitive.

For Dinaire, it's the energy of acidy trance (such as goa) that gets him. That's why often, even when the music he's mixed is melodic, it is still infused with a dark, psychedelic edge.

The style he found on Logic Trance 4 progressed to his next effort, En Trance.

"En Trance"

En Trance was Victor Dinaire's second foray into the world of DJ mixed trance compilations. Maintaining the fusion of hard, melodic and psychedelic fans of Logic Trance 4 are familiar with, he created a very worthy successor to his debut, "Logic Trance 4."

You can also hear him moving toward the sound he would bring to life on his "Timeless Trance -- Midnight Sessions" CD.

"En Trance" seems to increase the psychedelic edge with more acidy textures such as you'd hear in goa trance.

Having heard "Midnight Sessions" and "Logic Trance 4" before I ever encountered this one, I can see the progression in his style. And it's a beautiful progression, baby.

He shows that he likes using sounds that, in and of themselves, aren't terribly musical or melodic in the conventional sense, and grafting them into highly listenable trance tunes.

"En Trance" proved to be another top notch trance effort from someone who has become one of my favorite DJs. -- A

"Besides the music, I'm pretty much a normal guy," Dinaire said of himself and his job. In fact, his job is not as cushy as you might think. He sometimes works late and puts in 12 hour days. But despite the time spent in the music scene, he still stresses the importance of friends and family.

And, of course, like any normal guy, he likes girls. It's not hard to meet women he said, and, yes, DJs do have groupies.

However -- he likes his relationships to be more personal, like the one he shares with a very important lady in his life who just returned from out of the country.

I asked Dinaire if he had any interesting anecdotes from his experience as a DJ. Turns out DJs have embarassing moments like everybody else.

One time he was spinning (a DJ term for DJing, as in spinning records) and he had to use the bathroom terribly. He used what came to hand, namely a kid's Gatorade bottle. Unfortunately, the kid came back for the bottle and nearly took a drink. All ended well, however.

I also wanted to know if Dinaire had a message for everyone out there. He does: If there is something you really want and love -- go after it.

"Focus on your life," he said.

Which, in his case, includes music. He has an upcoming compilation he is mixing that will also include, for the first time, some tracks he composed.

To tide you over until that gets here, there is a two CD set available in which Dinaire highlights the history of trance by presenting some of the great tunes of the genre. Take a look. Or should I say listen?

"Timeless Trance -- Midnight Sessions"

"Timeless Trance -- Midnight Sessions" is the dark side of Victor Dinaire's two volume "Timeless Trance" series, designed to compile classics of the genre.

It's chock full of midnight music, bringing the listener a buzzing, compelling mix of dark, psychedelic beats.

It's sort of creeper trance, starting out unassuming and atmospheric. But when you get to the Commander Tom number on track 5, whammo! Acidy, psychedelic lashes of sound hit you and you are caught on a wave of electronica.

You wash through to DJ Taucher's wavy, computer beehive audio assault, "Bizarre" two tracks later and by then you realize you're listening to a fine example of midnight trance and of Dinaire's penchant for dark mixtures of flavor. -- A

"Timeless Trance -- Morning Sessions"

"Timeless Trance -- Morning Sessions," mixed by Victor Dinaire (who consistently turns out quality trance compilations) is a friggin' CD textbook of epic trance.

Dinaire's two volume "Timeless Trance" series (also including the "Midnight Sessions" CD) is intended , in part, to "showcase ... some of the most important tunes of the genre," according to Dinaire. These two discs are supposed to be sort of a trance's greatest hits, with "Morning" being a best of for melodic and epic trance.

Dinaire has succeeded with flying colors, a phrase that would be beautifully appropriate to describe this CD. If sounds were colors, this disc would be flying colors from start to finish.

Dinaire has compiled and mixed possibly one of the finest collections of epic trance I've run across. The music on this disc, about half of which I'm familiar with as classics, is capable of lifting you up and taking you away.

"Morning Sessions" is emotionally poignant and esthetically gorgeous and would serve as a great introduction to epic.

I don't know what else to say other than that I'm (obviously) effusive. It's the music's fault. It's hard not to bubble over at such a great disc. Highly recommended. -- A+

never saw him spin, but i heard a lot of good things about him. wouldnt mind seeing a new trance DJ residency at Exit. crowds dont even bother me anymore, i'll just stick to myself from now on at clubs and not let the typical "club boys and girls" crowd bother me. so vic, i dont know you, but you sure do rock!

It'd definitely be nice to have a local trance residency.. All the international talent is great but it'd be good to have our own..

And Vic did at least 1 party that I remember at Exit, and I remember all the Draper kids complaining about trance being at Exit.. But after they heard him, all they had to say was how AWESOME Vic was.. It was actually kinda funny to hear that coming from all the Draper heads..

Personally, I hate Filter 14 (the venue I mean, if I can even call it that LOL).. But I used to go to Baktun all the time, and love that place.. I get clostraphobic at Filter 14, too small for me.. I think it'd be better at a loungy type club, but hey, that's just my opinion

aww thanks everyone!!

i really appreciate it

ny is my #1 priority right now. i love traveling and i will always do it but at the present moment, im working on making ny a regular thing. playing at home is very special to me.

as for timeless trance, i miss doing it. remote lounge wasnt the right place for it. the sound was awful there. i know some boomboxes with better sound. it took the energy out of me & towards the end, i lost drive.

i hope to restart it as a monthly party soon after i settle in as a resident somewhere in nyc.

once again thank u all for supporting me! i hope i dont let anyoen down
