interesting theory about the reason behind this war
hmm...i came across this article today, and havent read anything like it before...interesting and seems certainly plausible to me...but i dunno for sure...what do u guys think?
interesting article...well of course there's economic interests in the war...if it were not economically sound, less chance of war imo.

Very interesting. Especially since most wars are fought for money anyway. One of the best explanations so far I've seen. And it gives a good explanation of why Britain is not supporting the rest of the EU. Ever since Brettonwood agreement and the beginning of the US-Britain special relations, Britain supported the dollar heavily, and refused to join the eurozone. So for them, it's better to have the dollar back in Iraq.

I've seen this exact explanation from a Romanian source around 1 month ago. The bottom line is this: any way you look at the attack on Iraq, its not remotely about what Bush says its about. I think this is one of several reasons why they are going to war.

This theory seems very convincing, but I'm no expert in monetary politics. I don't understand what they mean by those dollars coming back to be redeemed (sp?). Its been a while since the US isn't keeping any gold in its reserve for the dollars they print. So you would come back and exchange it against what??!
This might hold a bit of truth, I've heard it before. I belive that there are many reasons the US wants to overthrow Saddam:
In no particular order
1. Power of the dollar (this thread)
2. Protect against terrorism (like destroying Islamic militant camps in northern Iraq)
3. Liberate a country that we left defenseless a decade ago.
4. Destroy Saddam's ability to make WMD
5. Stop Saddam's imperilalism
6. Enforce UN resolution 1441
7. To open up Iraqi oil wells to the world community

Ok, FuzzyGreen, I agree with your first 2 points, especially the first one which now seems very interesting/likely but the rest don't make much sense.
3. The US doesn't care about liberating any country. It just puts up new governments which support the american cause regardless of their policies.
4. No evidence of the WMDs so far.
5. Hmm, US shouldn't accuse anyone of imperialism considering it's world policeman role. A role which is not supported by the UN anymore also. Which brings me to...
6. Interesting how the US suddenly cares about UN resolutions so much. Enough that it would completely ignore the security council in order to protect them.
7. They were opened to the world community through the oil for food program.
