Well, that depends... what are you using now?
And no wonder you're fed up, I don't think it's wise to try and compare yourself to BT, at least at this stage.
I seem to be getting better, although my percussion sounds more housey than progressive for some reason...

Key to programming breaks a la BT:
Think in terms of inside and outside layers. The inside layer has all your busy jigga-jigga stuff, and the outside layer (i.e. the louder punchier one) is BOOM, KAK, - -, BOOM-KAK. The inside layer should be filtered, like only highs or only mid & a bit of highs.
Examine the original breakbeats (James Brown, etc.)
