Alright so after seeing my girlfriend yesterday, 13 hours sleep, and missing a day of uni today here are my thoughts.
Got there at 11 and went straight to the globe. I would have gone to the globe even if i hated progressive, because there would be no way im waiting for 1 hour in the line at metros. Its always that way too. Even when just round the corner old berlin is open with 1/10th of the line. Chad D was playing good stuff, met up with Bedrock and then he called a Layo and Bushwacker track deep south i think. Couldnt hear all that well since we were right under the speaker. Dave Seaman came on at 11 and started around 5 past. Jah came and met up with slade and me about 15 minutes into seamans set.
His first 45 minutes were great. Only track I knew out of it was Holden and Thompson - Nothing (93 Returning Mix). The track he played after this, and the track after that were both great. Wouldnt mind knowing the name of them. Then as i was slowly getting pushed toward the back his set was dropping off a lot. Lots of tracks with horribly hihg pitched vocals (maybe due to the system) that i didnt really like. However he was really getting into it, dancing and singing along to the songs. The filterheadz mix of emerald might have been in there, not 100% sure but. After some relatively cheezy tracks seaman picked it up again. But he still dropped some tracks with horribly high pitched vocals. One being a song that bedrock called a scooter remix, not sure about that one because i dont listen to much scooter . Another one being a remix of Madonna - Ray of Light. Not sure what mix though. Seaman also dropped Breezer which was the first time i had heard it, and it was good stuff. Really nice track. Then he went on to play U2 - Staring at the sun (Brothers in rhytm club mix) which was amazing. Really liked that track, seaman brought out his lighter and was moving it from side to side. Seaman finished his set with a track that used a lot of guitars, bedrock thought it might be a coldplay song remixed.
After that sander klienenberg got on 1. After joking around with seaman and the crowd by holding up a how to dj book and pretending to read it while seamans coldplay track was still on he got into it. Me and my friend left the globe to seek cheezier pastures in metros. Didnt want to miss any of armin's set so we said good bye to slade and jehahn and moved on. We got to metros at about 1:45 to hear junkie xl banging it out. Im dissapointed i didnt run to metros to catch all of this guys stuff. I was expecting a little less conversation type stuff.
fuck me he was banging it out. GO SEE THIS GUY! He was great, really getting into it. He played until about 2:40, so i was able to catch about 50 minutes of his set. He played Breezer which was great. Everything sounds better in metros and hearing the same song twice proves that. After breezer im not sure what he played, a track which had a chunky beat and bassline, maybe his emerge remix. There were some other tracks he played that i cant remember now. Then i heard the beauty never fades intro and died. Hella good track. Singing along to it, but it looked like i was the only one who knew the vocals. Then after beauty never fades, Dj Tiesto and Junkie Xl - Obession. I seriously recommend to everyone who hasnt gone to two tribes yet, see this man. His performance was great, so energetic and killer tunes. Dont use your hate for the progressive house as an excuse not to go either. My friend who usually hates proggy stuff was really liking it. Ill say it one more time. GO SEE THIS GUY!.
Then at 2:30 armin walked on stage to the sounds of obsession. 10 Minutes later armin started playing. First track was Hydra affinity. I was 2 rows of people from the front and desperately needed the stage to lean on. I cant remember much of the order of the tracks. But woah. This was the best set ive heard live ever. The tracks he played were great. His mixing left a lot to be desired in some places with what just seemed like him fading it up and then quickly taking the other one out. There was one he took the outgoing one out before the incoming one had properly built up and it was just beats basically. He also mixed tracks that didnt even go together. Another reason the mixing sounded dodgy probably. But the tracks he played though... omfg i die! more than made up for the shoddy mixing. When he played for an angel, everyone went fucking nuts. It was insane, having never heard that song live before i loved it. So much energy. Same when he dropped born slippy at around 5am or so. I was so tired from dancing for near 5 hours, and having been on my feet all day. But that didnt matter when the synths of born slippy hit (btw it was the original, not the new 3 drives one). I was shouting all the words with this chick next to me who was loving it nearly as much as I was. Im dissapointed he didnt play solid globe north pole. I was the guy the front shouting it out toward the start. I tried my best to get it played (some guy went up on stage with Solid Sessions - Janiero to get signed, i wrote on his bit of paper "play solid globe - north pole" didnt happen but ). Btw was the guy with solid sessions record a ta? figure there is a decent chance of it being someone if they were getting a vinyl signed. Jehahn (jah) came and saw me up the front for a little bit when armin mixed in the weapon, but then dissapeared a few songs later. At the end of his set armin through out two records into the crowd. Ive read from other boards that one was sunburn, and i saw the guy with the other record which was yet another day. I was keen on stealing it . After armin put on his encore track (Yet another day) he jumped into the crowd and got mobbed by so many people. I figured this was a good time to walk off the dance floor and sit down for 5 minutes. Armin finished at 6:15 which is suprising since usually at metros its power off at 6am.
It was a fuckin amazing night, best night out ive ever had i think.
Bring on two tribes 04.
