Party Hat *challenge* for all you that hate Rap / HipHop

ive noticed that the genre receiving the most bashing on here is rap/hiphop. i challenge those who generalize it as 'making out with your grandma' or something similar, to listen to Talib Kweli's Reflection Eternal album in its entirety, and then tell me there is no positive or good hiphop.

i myself also do not enjoy gangsta rap, but i think many of us electronic music addicts could use some variety, which i present here in the form of very bangin yet socially conscious hiphop.

if you need to find the album, im on the ta hub.

so thats my challenge to you ! but i warn you, its no nelly/jarule, you'll actually have lyrics to process

That seems like a great idea. BUT I hate hip hop and all the Gangsta bullshit that goes with it. So I'm afraid I havent got time to listen to something that I'm 99% likely to hate - its a waste of my time.
As well as that, because I hate hip hop I am likely to only listen to this album superficially, and therefore not get the full jist of it anyway.

I don't *hate* rap per se, but I'm not a big fan of it either. It's interesting that this topic would come up in a Trance/Prog forum though, because it seems that Rap is the furthest removed from the style of music that Trance/Prog are.

Think about it for a second...to me, rap is the first music genre that elevated lyrics to the central point of the song, the backbeat is just that, a back-up for the vocals. In stark contrast you have Trance and Prog, where vocals are usually viewed as cheesy, or are minimal in nature with music and groove being the central focus of the music.

It seems like a natural thing for people who are into one to be less likely to like the other, as they're opposites.

that's exactly what im talkin about, im trying to free you of the association of 'hiphop' with gangsta. talib kweli is not gansta. give it a try, you will be surprised by the depth of his lyrics.

associating 'hip-hop' with thugs is about as appropriate as associating trance with kandy kids!

For me, enjoying music is hearing something that you like so much, you want to get up and dance to it. After that, you play it over and over again. I never get that feeling with hip-hop. I have to give it credit though, I've had a lot of hot girls rub their asses on me cuz of that shit

That's an interesting way of looking at it. Another thing I've noticed is that a lot of people who like rap also like DJ Sammy. I don't know why this is, but it just seems that way, at least around where I live.
