Crystal Method is also similar in certain respects, they were called the American Chemical Brothers. |
The difference is that Chemical Brothers/Fatboy Slim/(not all) of Prodigy is big beat, whether Crystal Method is Chemical beats.
Their live act can't be compared though: Prodigy was mainly a live act, with people who would do nothing but keep the crowd going (remember that, out of 4 people, only 1 of them actually produces).
Out of all these artists, Liam Howlett (Prodigy's mastermind) is my favourite. In all his albums, he works with at least two completely different genres, and he did evolve during all this time.
The Chemical Brothers are also outstanding, and they were really important in the history of Big Beats. Nevertheless, "Hey Boy! Hey Girl" and the second remix of "Life Is Sweet" show their potention in other genres (something more housy).
Fatboy Slim is also a great producer, who came up with some very good ideas. However, he's too attached to one genre (as far as I'm concerned, apart from Star 69, all he produced was big beats).
If you like big beats and trance, listen to Moby's "Feeling so real": quite interesting. Also, there's "Fluke" with "Atom Bomb" and "Absurd" (although their sound is a bit 'colder'), Junkie XL's first album (Saturday Teenage Kick). And, if you like early Prodigy, look for SL2 (cheesy as hell though).
hhmmm.... I guess that's all I had to say about big beat....
