Roland TR 909 question
Need a quick opinion - I have an opportunity to buy a mint roland tr909 with all the manuals and MIDI retrofit. Is it worth it or does Rebirth do the same job? I have a rebirth right now and I wanted to find out how does it stock up against the real thing - soundwise and reality-wise.
thnx!

midi retrofit?? A TR909 has midi originally haha
rebirth does an ok job....but whether or not you need a real 909 depends fully on yourself. A lot of people think it's too overprices to own, and can do with samples, which, honestly, is pretty much true, in a full mix, you can't tell whether something is a real 909 or some sample kit.
However....sequencing drumtracks on the thing itself.....is really undescribably cool and a real one just sounds real....sigh....I'll be getting one of these someday. Not because it's a definite must-have but because it brings up romantic emotions and inspiration

Personally, I think the 909 in Rebirth is pretty average. I use LM-7 myself for percussion. It sounds much better imo. It would certainly be easier to use than a mouse & keyboard though

No to the 909. Buy a good sample disc, or a few. Save that money and buy a JP8000, Virus, Supernova or Waldorf.

I agree with Etherium. You should only buy a TR-909 if you have already a full equiped-studio and much money to spend. If not, use samples and spend your money on something more usefull.
