I never tried recording into .mp3, but I've heard you lose quality going directly to .mp3. Your best bet is to record in .wav and then convert. Most recording programs have their own built in recorder. I personally use SoundForge.

Has a lot of extra gadgets with it, but I find myself just using it to record, whenever I mess with the other stuff it just makes the mix sound worse. =p

I tried using Sound Forge back at version 4, but found it really didn't record reliably over the hour mark (quite important when doing mix CDs )

Now I always record using Total Recorder which has never let me down. I think it can record straight to mp3 too, but I've never tried that.

Dunno much about mp3 encoding really... does on-the-fly encoding really sound worse? I guess unless you've got a really nice machine you won't be able to encode much above 128kbs in real-time though?

Hey Werewolf,

I'm also a big fan of Total Recorder. It's a reliable program. Somethin' like $11 if I can remember correctly to get the registered version. I use it to record all of my mixes.

I use musicmatch jukebox and encode straight to mp3 @ 192Kbps. Never had any problems always solid encoding and quality.

it's nice to be able to record your mixes... I couldn't do it beacuse of Dells buggy audio drivers. now that I fixed the problem, it's time to mix

I have another question ppl...

while recording with Total Recorder (mixer to PC), do you use Total Recorders audio dirvers or your sound cards original ones?

I think TRs drivers are only required for recording from internet or other software...

ay wsup guys...

check it.. i have the soundblaster audigy platinum, so i use the rca's in front of it to rec my mixes...

but i was wonderin what you guys use to split ur mix..
ive read throughout the threads that alot of ppl use music cutter..thats what i use... butttt

when i playback, i can hear the splice between tracks... no biggy, cuz its kinda hard to hear... but it would be nice not to hear n e thing at all... so if n e one knows a prog that can split mixes flawlessly, hit me up

thanks
late
