WEMF money robbed from NUMB

Hey guys
This tall, slim, lighter skinned middle-eastern guy with a mild accent of some sort came in yesterday. He had hair like Brian Mulroney's son, but black and gelled up in an attempt to make it more funky. He was wearing a pastelly coloured shirt (I think it was baby blue), and wrap around sunglasses on the top of his head. He came in earlier and seemed very interested in the merchandise. He looked around the store and said he was so excited about WEMF and that he would be buying clothes and tickets from us as soon as he went to get some money.
About an hour or so later, he returned, and asked politely if I could put his bag behing the desk for safe-keeping it was a knapsack with a funky looking water bottle attached to it. The lid of the water bottle was blue, had a loop in it and was attached to the bag. In order to drink from it, you have to twist the bottle off from the lid. ). He seemed equally as inquisitive as before, picked out some t-shirts he was going to buy. Shortly after his return, a short (short than me.... 5'4 or 5'3 maybe?), stalky and chunky white guy with a shaved head came in and was very interested in the merchandise. He had what sounded like a slight southern US accent.
I started writing a receipt for suspect #1 (he hadn't paid yet) and he insisted I help suspect # 2 (the stalky white guy). Suspect #2 kept asking me to "show" him some of the women's clothes in the back for his "girlfriend". Meanwhile, I was trying to keep an eye on the rest of the store. Suspect #1 seemed like he was waiting patiently in front of the counter to make his purchases. I looked back to suspect #2 and he asked me to hold up some clothes for him to see. Another customer came in and I ran back to the counter to help him. Suspect #1 dissapeared without buying the merchandise he picked. His bag was gone and I was to figure out a few minutes late, so was a lot of money.
I finished helping the latest customer and went back to check on suspect #2. He was gone. I didn't even see him leave. I thought that seemed kind of fishy... but didn't really think more of it until the next customer came in to buy bus tickets and the bus ticket money was GONE. It wasn't unil I cashed out that I realized money was missing from the till too.
I realize now that this wasn't an act of impulse theft. Suspect #1 was in the store earlier and saw me sell tickets to other customers. He saw how and where we kept the ticket money. He pretended to look around and be interested in merchandise so he could scope out the area. He didn't return for at least an hour because he was probably talking to suspect #2 making plans on how to distract me fromt the counter and yoink the money.
I was so happy to help them out too. And I was so happy that people were so interested in NUMB's merchandise. They're a family owned and run store and they really care about what they do. It's not the Gap, ya know?
I feel absolutely awful about what's happened. I would feel a gazillion times better if it was my money that was stolen. They trusted my and had enough faith in me to leave the store in my hands and look what happens.
I don't know how I can make it up to them
I was balling for a little while and I think I may have freaked a coupke of customers out, sorry.
There may have been other people in the store that saw the supsects. Please, if you saw anyone in NUMB yesterday that fit the descriptions above, let us know.
I'm going to WEMF today to see them.
They're such awesome people. Of all people this happened to |
