The problem with the american government

In my opinion there are certain key problems with the united states.
Supposed freedom.... In my opinion one should be allowed to do whatever he or she wants as long as it has no effect on others. This is not the case in the US, instead we are subjected to a rather christian breed of morals

Most importantly is the fact that US politics is controlled by the rich. For instance, one can see this quite clearly if you look at the level of spending that goes into electoral campaigns. Politics are a rich mans game and because of this the interests of the rich are the drive behind most of the governments polices.

Am i the only American that wishes for a government that truly works for the good of the people?

im ready to get flamed
btw despite living overseas i am an american so this is not some kind of american bashing

Haha, I'd like that. Would be great if the system worked like that. *puff*

- Well, I think that the way the representaives in the US government don't represent the people, since like 98% are whites and males, there, they don't represent the different ethnics groups, so they aren't able to understand them. The whites will end up been the minority, but, the representaives are all whites.. so I think that should change gradually. Also, more then half the senates are millionairs. And yes, they are majority rich and such. I think that governments in every country, their liders are rich somehow, depending on who supports them, the companies and stuff, they are influenced by it.

Not Canada, where campaign finance reform is a paradigm of success. Of course, I'm sure the rich still have some say, but not quite as much. Bravo on that universal health care, friends up north.

Hmmmm....Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell are black, and they are in two of the Bush administration's most powerfull positions. I can't think of any other significant politicians in Canada or Europe that are of minority.

I know, Im talking about the percentage they belong to, and Im basically referring to the representatives of the people, such as the House of Representaives and Senate. The jobs of Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell is other then representing the people. Even so, they belong to the very low percentage of ethnic representatives.

There are 121 members of the House of Representative who are women or minority. Out of a total of 435 members that constitutes a little over 27% of congress. So to correct your statistic, only 73% are white and males . When looking into the population according to the 2000 census, whites constitute 75.1% of the population so maybe congress isn't as underrepresented as most think. Actually the most underrepresented group in congress is oddly enough asian-americans.

in the US minorities means black. In Canada it means French. The current Prime minister is French and important ministers are held by French.

We live in a secular society, religion has no place in government
