Which Pioneer headphones? the HDJ1000 or HDJ5000? If 1000, this is the first I've heard of anyone having problems with their pair. Did you leave them out by a window where the sun gets thru, or near a heat source somewhere, such as near your mixer, or amp? They are under warranty by Pioneer if you bought them from an Authorized retailer.

Incidently, was that your post I saw on Pionner forum?

it was probably my brother who posted there. he uses them as well.
They have been used as normal. i ain't left them next to any heat sources or anything. I have to say tho' the leather seems quite hard on the phones i've got.

It was the 1000's.

that is really weird, i have never heard anything bad about the hdj-1000 headphones...

i own a pair and i love them to death...they are sooo comforatable and the sound is great..

maybe you live in a very arid area? and i agree with the post about them being left in the sun, that could crack the leather over time...but that is very strange, b/c the leather on them is real, and less susceptible to cracking (unlike the sony 700s)

i recommend some kind of colorless leather polish. i know that such things exist to keep your leather moisturized...

oh geez now i'm scared it's gonna happen to me, i should pick up a tin myself...

I've had my pair of HDJ-1000s for close to 10 months now and my leather looks just like new. If you don't take care of your headphones, then what can you expect? Leather care is very important, be it on you headphones, jacket or car interior--you have to work to keep it nice. There are still plenty of polishes etc that you can get from stores like wilson's that can help you preserve your leather better.

And if the leather is the only problem, then it's not Pioneer's fault. They make electronics, not cows

I've never had a problem with my Pioneer 1000 headphones... Until 3 days ago

The right earphone was cutting out,,, and to be perfectly honest... I take good care of my equipment. To make a long story short,,, when I ordered my headphones with a friend,,, he kept the receipt. He's been avoiding my calls for 4 days now,,, so knowing that the place we ordered them from wouldn't fix them or exchange them without the receipt... I decided to try and fix it myself. BIG MISTAKE. Anways... after taking my headphones apart,,, I noticed that the wire leading the earphone was wearing out in several places

So... I'm going to have to have my entire headphones re-wired now,,, and I've decided to buy another pair of Sony 700's for the time being.

That wasn't a big mistake, that was a HUGE MISTAKE!!!. 1. Pioneer HDJ Headphones are the ONLY headphones on the market that have a replaceable cord 2. You should have taken them to an authorized Pioneer repair shop to get them fixed, once you opened them yourself, you just voided out the entire warranty on them. and 3. DO NOT PURCHASE SONY MDR V700DJ, 'cause now that you've had Pioneer HDJ1000 with highest quality, going to 700DJ by Sony will make them sound like a POS that they are.and they won't be comfortable at all.

When I got my pair of Pioneer HDJ1000, got them as soon as they came out on the market, I thought I'd keep my Sony 700DJ as a backup, two days later I was too lazy to go to my car and get my equipmnent bag out with my Pioneer headphones, so I used my now backup Sony 700 pair, only lasted on my head for one track, I ran to my car and got my babies(Pioneer headphones) out and it was like a sigh of relief, week later I sold those damn Sony 700s, 'cause I felt exactly was I described above.. Good Luck!!!

Yeah buddy,,, money isn't really an issue. I used the sony last week at my club night and they were fine. I'm going to get the pioneer fixed but honestly I don't have time to wait around for them to get fixed so I'm buying another pair of 700's. Seriously,,, the wire was coming apart in several places on my Pioneers,,, what the fuck is up with that? Anyways... I told you guys how my buddy was fucking me over with the receipt and frankly I don't give a fuck about the warranty... the heaphones I got were pieces of shiet. period.

AND...

It wasn't the main cord that I was having a problem with... It was the wire that leads to the right earphone

They are taken very good care of. My brother pointed it out to me when we first got them that the leather seemed quite hard, so it may just have been a defective pair.
