ahhh the 64 thousand dollar question...
...as Guyver likes to describe on the Tidy board, trying to remove the vocals from a track is a little like trying to get all the raw ingredients out of a baked cake. Could you really extract the egg, flour and sugar that goes into baking one, having been just given a cake? I think not.
It's the same with music, it's insanely difficult to remove vocals from a track. As someone said, you kill the frequencies that the vocals sit on, and you kill other parts of the track such as drums and synths. However I think what you meant is how do you EXTRACT vocals from an MP3 or WAV, as it getting the acapella. This is exactly the same as the afforementioned cake theory. Put simply you can't.
