chaos and anarchy in Baghdad

just on the news in Holland (I wonder why they don't mention this on www.cnn.com )

I have this dutch article from a (credible) news-site: http://www.nu.nl/news.jsp?n=132614&c=23

it is dutch so you can't read it but you can verify it with someone who is dutch. I will try to say some stuff from what's in the article.

There is some heavy looting going on in Baghdad. Shopowners shoot people who are trying to steal merchandise from their shops. The situation is very hectic, there are no policemen in the neighbourhood. The American soldiers watch it and do nothing about it. A Reuters-journalist witnessed someone being shot in their car, the driver was removed from the car and the car was stolen.

there is also some other war-related stuff in the article but this is my main point.

Post your thoughts about this one...

well, there is nobody to 'Police' the cities.... there's no government....

some people say that 'they're taking back what belongs to them', like getting back at saddam..... but i think it's going a bit to far.
I wouldn't call it anarchy just yet.....

Something should be done really fast to deal with it tho.

This is entirely predictable. Hopefully, order is restored soon. What else would you do, though, if you had no government, no economy, no police, no job, little food, and a lot of pent up rage?

Best of luck to all the Iraqis...

Yes, I am worried about the post war too but I'm sure this all is to be expected. As soon as the actual combat is over (I'm assuming 24-72 hours from now) they'll get to restoring law and order.

i posted a thread about this too ..
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=100694

Much of the civil disorder is not only caused by lack of a police force, but also due to sectarian violence it seems. I also remember hearing on the news that the military are being told not to intervene because they are not trained to perform policing type work and that if they attempted to it might seem like an occupation. One lady who lives in Baghdad but lived a few years in the States told one reporter that there are bandits who are coming from the outskirts and into the city to loot and pillage. She was afraid and complained to one soldier that they should do something to stop the chaos. Baghdad is a city of about 5 million, that's pretty scary if you ask me! I'm sure the same would happen in any city under similar circumstances..

One major problem I can see coming is the role of peacekeepers. the UN want to send peace keepers into the region to help stabilize it, but the US seems to want UN intervention limited to a more minor role. This will be interesting to see how it all plays out..

i think the whole deal about restoring order to the country might be a little bit more complicated than many people had originally thought.

youre right! i wonder too, especially knowing CNN is led by Ted Turner, a true socialist, just like Hussein himself. Furthermore, does anybody realize that CNN's stance on this war is to make sure they report ALL THE MANY U.S. SOLDIERS KILLED IN THE WAR, and how that is just horrible, making ppl think our soldiers are getting killed but not getting anything done over there.

fuck CNN. fuck TED TURNER.

watch some Fox news, or some MSNBC, which are closer towards the middle ground.

Dude. You are WAY off with that one. I watched some MSNBC the other day, and I thought for a sec I was watching Rush Limbaugh's old show (when he had one). They kept showing speaches of Bush, and the anchorman kept crooning about what a "great commander in chief" he is etc. It was nauseating.

CBS news is the best that I have seen, and it's as middle of the road as you can get. I'm really impressed. I think it's pretty close to what you might see in a neutral country like Holland (not an anti-American country like France). BBC isn't too bad either.

Oh, and DOWN WITH GERALDO!!!!!!

FOX = GOP

- Yes I like CBS, is pretty good. Also, ABC is good too. I remember that one reporter that was showing like dead soldiers and stuff, and he was asked by the guy that sits on the desk of why he was showing that, and then the reporter told him that it was needed to show the people what this war is also about.. So ABC, CBS and BBC do it for me.
