tru 4.5 isnt very big but in the location alabama is which means it is not near any tectonic plate boundaries or hot spots or failed rifts even tho the appalachians are near (they stopped forming during the triassic period  ) hence having that large of a quake in alabama is a big thing where as all of you on the west coast are accustomed to 6+ richter scale quakes because of the shearing of the plates
