Remedy for FingerPrints

I just bought a bunch of used records and alot of them have numerous fingerprints on them
I treated them with Gruv Glide but those ugly fingerprints remain..Any of you have suggestions on how to get rid of them?

Thanx

I have the Stanton cleaning kit, and it removes all fingerprints regardless of ugliness factor, so you might want to try it as a last resort (and if it's worth the trouble for one fingerprint).

A moot point - but perhaps try using more Gruv Glide? Also, what is your cleaning method? Do you place the vinyl on the platter, and spin while holding down the brush, or do you do it free-hand?

I find the best method for cleaning is the one mentioned - put your record on the turntable platter, and spin it with your finger pushing on the label, while you push down with your other hand (and the brush) onto the record. That cleans it up good. Whatever is left is a permanent scratch or similar.

Hope this helps.

Ok, like all of my vinyl have fingerprints on them, and have had them for a long time. I don't thing it is a huge issue unless its like a rare rec or something.

Depending on which needle u are using, the fingerprints matter

In my case, I had a fingerprint on my rec. and I guess it was a bunch of junk in the grooves of the record which made it keep looping at the same point over and over again.

I was wondering about this issue as well. Does having many fingerprints hurt the resale value of a record?? IS it really just being anal when it comes to this? What about dust? Dust in teh grooves might affect sound quality as well, but you can just blow it off with compressed air. At least one person seems to think that fingerprints affects the sound quality.

Dust in the grooves of a record can be worse than many think if you're not careful. The problem is as the needle moves through the groove of the record it heats the area up briefly up to temperatures of ~200. This is partly why you get record wear.

When you have dust in the grooves, it can heat up and/or get dragged through the groove and cut into it more than the needle would and produce premature wear. That and the fact it can give off those damned annoying pops and clicks which just plain sucks

Yeah, that sounds bad.

Do you guys blow dust off of the needle with some canned air or something before you play??

If it heats up to 200 then wouldn't the dust just burn?

Anyway what's the best way to get rid of dust cuz I've got alot of dust around here, and for now i use swiffer-tissues (uncharged). It works for about 75%, it would probably work better if I charged them with the TV but I thought this could have a bad effect to the vinyls.
