I just had to vent this little frustration....The other day I went out and bought some blank CDs so I could back up a lot of my files...and as Murphey's Law would have it, just as I was starting to back stuff up...my hard drive bit the dust. I lost over 15gb of trance. Ouch! That hurt!

Good point...before you do anything drastic like low-level format, you may want to ask some of us....we might be able to help.

Thanks guys for the support. One of the chips on the circuit board blew out and I already sent it back to Maxtor because it was still under warranty. I'm just thankful that the stuff that I've been writing was on a different drive (and also backed up on CD). As far as the drive that ate it, I only got 2 CDs worth of stuff backed up before disaster struck. Damn, it used to be that you could back up your whole hard drive onto about 30 or 40 floppies....but now with drives that are 60+ gb.....that's a lot of backing up...even on to CDs.

CDs just take too long as a backup media...let's see
i have 30gig of mp3's
I have a 12x burner
80min cds (700mb)
*breaks out the calculator*
Roughly 43 CDs needed and it would take 8min/CD (rounding up)
about 6 hours with no breaks
not a very efficient way to back up. I'll stick to my DLT Tape Backup for now. Though CDs are and will always be supported, where DLt is a technology that can and will be phased out.
