Fri night I went to a loft party run by Twilo staff. It was a private, invite only, intimate party w/SK (not in a club). Couple of hundred ppl. SK played a horrible set. Way too mellow prog house. At first I thought he was making a 7 layer cake...building & layering yada yada yada. It never picked up...no climax, explosion of bombs. The set stayed a 1 level..it was a pancake, it went nowhere. I wasn't even concentrating on trainspotting...thats how boring it was. I barely danced. Regardless, It was a great party, awesome vibe, all Twiloites. I left unsatisfied & disappointed. It felt like 6 hours of foreplay & not cumming.

Before he went on...I got a chance to meet him. I told him My Lexicon is brilliant. My friend offered him $10 for his remix of Scorchio. Sander laughed & gave him the record. My friend was in cloud nine.

Yeah, Sander K doesn't have a great reputation for his spinning, actually.

You're not the first person I've seen who's been disappointed by his ability as a DJ.

hmmm even tho his productions totally kick his dj skills
his impulz set was pretty good
not what everyone expects because he is in his own lil genre, but nonetheless, he seems like a quality dude

i dunno about his djin cuz i never heard him spin, but his productions are simply brilliant...

His nu-breed cd's are amazing. Maybe he was playing for the type of party he was at...a small, intimate party that didn't call for explosions and peaks. Technically he is a brilliant dj.

Very good point. My friend talked to him after his set. This is what he said:

1) "It was HOT in a small loft, so he wanted to keep the set more chill.

2) He played a few bigger songs, peak hour type songs (like Revolution), and he said they didn't sound right.

3) He figured that the crowd would be knowledgeable enough to enjoy a more subtle set."


It was a fuckin sauna in there! Danny Howells played at the same loft 2 wks before & he tore it up, hard pounding beats.

LOL...That just confirms what i've been thinking about a number of prog DJs attitudes. As it has gotten bigger, taken on by more 'mainstream' DJs, the experts have become too worried about being 'cool' and 'underground'. They playing safe, seemingly inaccessable tracks, that build and build, like they always have, but just go nowhere, and act like that's supposed to be sophisticated.

Lawler, Sander K, and even some of Digweed's recent sets always left me with a feel like that's what was on their mind, and there's proof.

Real smooth line. Give me a break. Sander K was much better before he got picked up by Twilo and the boxed boys.

TG, I really enjoyed Sander's set. First off, the vibe, crowd, and overall environment was amazing. What an intimate gathering!!! I miss Twilo just as much as anyone but this was just as incredible an experience--just different. I loved it and I thought Sander was excellent. I think the crowd really enjoyed his set. I thought it was fluid and his mixing was really good. I really liked most of the tracks he was dropping too. I thought he played some good, dark, deep, sexy beats. Second it was so so hot in there. I couldn't believe he was wearing a long-sleeve shirt. I really thought he might faint. I know I would dance for 5-10 minutes and the heat would force me to stop. Unlike a club that has ventilation or jets blasting cool air, this gig was in a loft where the heat accumulated. Overall I had an excellent time and the vibe was incredible. I am sorry I missed Sander and Nick Warren in March. I wish I had caught the Howells gig too.

Never heard Sander live but I hear he is off a lot these days spinning. Too bad, twilogoddess, but remember there is always PVD, who is the greatest.
