yeah i basically only know uplifting, a bit of acid (kai tracid) and a bit of hardtrance (like arome 'n stuff). since i want to expand my horizons (?) i have some questions for ya.

what other types do you listen to? what track can you recommend me as best of its type? is progressive trance? whats the difference between hardhouse and hardtrance? examples?

yeah i know, a lot of questions, but the search function is broke again...

Well let's see:
Hard Epic and Hard Uplifting Epic -- Christopher Lawrence, Ferry Corsten, Drax, Tranquility Bass(Razorfish above&beyond rms 2002) Green Martian, Niels Van Gogh(On a freak), DJ Dave -- Stand By Me(just plain MASSIVE TRANCER, saw Dyloot perform at 10th B-Day Spundae in SF celebration, Dyloot played the side with deep male vocals, not 7 minutes later I went upstairs into main room and Ferry Corsten mixed in same record just the other NON Vocal Side, this is a must have record), DJ Micro, ARMIN VAN BUUREN(how did I almost forget him)

Hardcore Trance: Swedish Egil, Scott Bond, Stimulant DJs, Nu-NRG, DJ Pimenov(first P of the great Russian group PPK)

Hard Cyber Uplifting Trance - Mars, Mystre, Dyloot, Tom Slik, Captain Jack, EJ Doubell, Cosmic Gate, Steve Baltes etc

Cheese commercialized or mainstream trance -- Cosmos, ATB, Alice Deejays, Arman "the Brainchild", Darude etc

Up-beat progressive trance -- Paul Van Dyk(PVD), Tiesto, Tillman Uhrmacher, Christopher Lawrence, John 00 Flemming, Seb Fontaine, Deep Sky, Transa, Oliver Lieb, etc...

Deep Progressive Trance (yum yum yum, love this genre that I play)--Chris Cowie, Omid 16B, Satoshi Tomiie, DJ Sasha, John Digweed, Dave Ralph, Electrictease, Noel Sanger, Nova, Deep Dish, Chris Fortier, etc...
check out www.planetxusa.com go to DJ shoppe, mark trance, and leave all other options on defaults and just click search, this website gets really specific on genre of trance and just pick any record to play preview so that you get a better feel of the main bass line and around what bpms each genre is mostly played at... Good Luck...

Ahmmm, N O! Cyber Trance has been around since Frequency 8 came about back in the 1990's. The reason I said Hard and uplifting 'cause I specifically wanted to distinguish Cyber Trance from Epic trance. If you don't know Frequency 8, then maybe names might ring a bell: Mars & Mystre, check out www.Frequency8.com or www.f-8.com. This music will take you for a ride in space at around 140-147 bpms with rich melodies and spacey synths, just listen to PPK Resurection or their new smash hit, RELOAD...

Hard Uplifting Epic and Hard Uplifting Cyber Trance are my two main genres that I spin....

Dimension 5 too, they play very Astral Projection like music, although they are not as well known. D5 is probably a bit more uplifting than Astral Projection though.

Ferry Corsten and Christopher Lawrence are so different. Same goes for AvB and Micro or even Green Martian. Your own idea of what certain djs plays/spins may not mean what the majority seems it as.

Hardcore Trance: Swedish Egil, Scott Bond, Stimulant DJs, Nu-NRG, DJ Pimenov(first P of the great Russian group PPK)

How is it so that PPK is under Hardcore trance? Personally i don't appreciate their productions, and to me it clearly comes under commercialized/mainstream. Scott Bond is Hard Trance/HardStyle. Nu-NRG is nu-nrg/nu-hard, some may say it is hardtrance. You lump them all under your Hardcore trance?

Hard Cyber Uplifting Trance - Mars, Mystre, Dyloot, Tom Slik, Captain Jack, EJ Doubell, Cosmic Gate, Steve Baltes etc

Hard Cyber uplifting? interesting of you to do such a generalisation of sub-genres.

quote:

Cheese commercialized or mainstream trance -- Cosmos, ATB, Alice Deejays, Arman "the Brainchild", Darude etc

this is better...

quote:

Up-beat progressive trance -- Paul Van Dyk(PVD), Tiesto, Tillman Uhrmacher, Christopher Lawrence, John 00 Flemming, Seb Fontaine, Deep Sky, Transa, Oliver Lieb, etc...

up-beat? do you have down-beat progressive trance in your dictionary too? Seb Fontaine with Pvd? Christopher Lawrence appearing here again?

Deep Progressive Trance (yum yum yum, love this genre that I play)--Chris Cowie, Omid 16B, Satoshi Tomiie, DJ Sasha, John Digweed, Dave Ralph, Electrictease, Noel Sanger, Nova, Deep Dish, Chris Fortier, etc...

You may have your own argument that anything is trance as long as it brings you to a journey, may it be progressive or uplifting. But Deep Dish, Satoshi, Omid 16B isn't trance nor even prog trance to me. They are Prog House and House. The current Digweed is more Deep Prog/Prog than his old days with Sasha. Perhaps you should replace the word trance with House and that would make it better. Only exception is Sasha who is pretty versatile.

I seldom post but looking at your post and how confident you are with your own sub-genres, in order not to mislead newbies, i decided to give some feedback.
