In Ontario, they announced after years of people protesting that the drunk driving laws are about to change. Harsh Laws are about to be put inforce imo.

yes it can be argued that one time should get a lifetime ban but it's a step to combat this disease in society. So what are the drunk driving laws like in your town?, are they as severe or not?

not that strict, but they are strict.

instead of trying to punish people they should spend more money on good public transportation so people don't need to drive to go to a club or bar.
just have to walk about 5 min to a subway stop, jump on the train to a stop by the club/bar, jump off. walk a few more blocks and they are there.

hmm, dui fucks up your life around here, no one will ever hire you, and they cranked up the laws, its like 10,000 now after it is all done, with jail time too of course, and i dont remember how long license suspension is, but ya, its not worth it, so dont drink and drive,

Agreed ... Europe has the best public transportation system known to man (except for maybe Japan). In the US the public transportation system shuts down at midnight, so what do people expect to happen when bars close at 2am??????

I think that stricter legislation is good. You can drink all you want, just don't make it unsafe for others.

The laws here are very good: if you get caught driving drunk, you're in deep trouble. I don't remember the laws by heart (although all drivers need to study it before getting a license), but there are some interesting points:

1) It works like a golf match - the more points you have, the worse it'll be for you. How do you earn these points? Driving drunk (which is considered a severe fault), overspeeding (also), several other things. If you make 21 points (I guess), you automatically lose your license and you'll have to wait one year to re-apply for another license. However, since driving drunk is a crime, you might spend sometime in jail (although this is very rare).

2) In your first year driving, you don't have a license: you get just a temporary permission. If you do something really stupid during this first year, you automatically lose your permission, and you'll have to wait 6 months in order to re-apply for another one.

There are some other laws, but I just can't remember what they are right now
