How do you people record your sets?!

Ive got sound forge and cool edit pro, but when i try and record i have to reduce the volume level on my mixer to about 4 or 5 so theres not too much bass whilst recording but i can barely hear the tunes?! any1 else have this problem, it pisses me off slightly, ne solutions?!

very easy, i use cdex that records immediately in wav and the audio source go in the line in of my soundcart.

if you have a table you need a dubbel out, if you don't have a dubbel out i wish you good luck because i don't know how to do it.

i use cool edit to record also. try adjusting the recording level of your sound card. it should be under your "line in" settings. i set mine slightly below the middle and set my mixer volume around 7. i had the same problem as you but after changing the settings it records fine.

I alway record with Sound Forge and all I do is make sure my EQ's are set on the mixer and adjust the input volume so there is no "cliping" . Mess around with the settings untill you find the perfect sound ( believe me , I havn't found them yet , there's always somrthing sounding off , he he ) . Whenever I record live I record something on MiniDisc and then onto my computwer .

I've got an RCA cable going from the second Master Out on the back of my DJM-500 to my computer -- and since the DJM-500 has a small master attenuation knob on the back, I can crank up the master out volume, but to avoid distortion and it being really really loud, the master attnuation has to be fairly low. The first master out only goes to my stereo, which I hardly ever have to bother with the volume on...I just get the master attentuation level to a point where it sounds decent on my stereo and isn't too loud for recording.

I used to use SoundForge to record, but it used a LOT of cpu for some reason -- before I got my second TT I switched back to Cool Edit because SoundForge was causing Traktor to skip (which I use to play from MP3s or CD rips).

(I have a djm-500 so...)

rca master out -> connecter to convert the rca to 1/8" -> line-in on my sound card -> i either use soundforge or just my default audio recorder that's with my soundcard software. doesn't really matter. same sound quality (finding the right volume to record at doesn't matter as long as it's under 0. soundforge can always boost the volume and stuff later).

i used to use my cd recorder and mini-disc but i have no use them for them now other than listening to cd's/mini-discs...

I use Soundforge aswell. Do you only have your equipment hooked up directly to your computer??? Anyways, if you want the Volume up on your mixer then on your computer go into Control Panel, then to Sounds and Audio Devices. From there under the Volume tab click the "Advanced" button, and turn the volume down for the line that you are using, hit ok, and your ready to go!!
